Q: Can you provide a 'buy' list for a person wanting to deploy $200,000 (inside RRSP) with the goal of creating 5% or more sustained cash flow - as well as growing the original capital to keep up with inflatiion? We do not have company pensions - this would serve to supplement our government pensions.
Thinking, 20 stocks across all sectors @ $10,000 each (or 5%)
Also could you include 10 growth stocks (inside TFSA) for a total of $250,000 - gotta have some fun ;)
Many Thanks
Jan

Q: What publicly traded companies in Canada (outside of the big 6) originate lending for the consumer or small business sector? Ideally looking for companies that have a bit of an alternative focus (M&A, leasehold improvement, appliance financing, etc) and are looking to expand their capital deployment scope.

Q: Can you suggest some US and Canadian high-quality value stocks with attractive valuations and, finally, that meet the "mundane" test. Heard a commentator discuss this recently. I think the idea is that if a high quality business is flashy, etc, its valuation would reflect that (say Coke or Berkshire Hathaway?). Other "mundane" companies would not (yet) have that prominence premium.

I'm not sure if this is the same as "deep value". Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Q: Hello

I finally bought into the thinking that GSY is helpful for some of the Canadian population. I bought shares recently when I thought things were not looking so bad.
GSY investment has given me the experience of a Waterfall/ Falling Knife Chart and it appears to continue to drain away capital value.
Terrible investment for me despite being what I thought to be a decent buy point.

The valuation I know is compelling.........everyone says those useless words.
Does this company have the financial ability to make it through this crashing market?
What is the indicator that makes you believe it to be so?

Thanks

Q: Hi 5i,

I am calculating a fcf yield for go easy,
and Trisura as being 18% and 23.5% respectively ($20/$111 and $7.38/31.36). Both these companies are compounders with more revenue and earnings quarterly. How are they not table pounding buys here? Can you please provide your thoughts and comments.

Q: I see you continue to have faith in Goeasy. On the weekend the Toronto Star had an article on potential reductions to the maximum allowable interest rate for the alternative lending market. As a longterm holder, and knowing of your previous position that this has been a potential concern for years, I’m wondering if this time is different. An unpopular government, public anger at corporate profits, a usury rate set when interest rates were much higher all lead me to believe the maximum rate might finally be reduced. Your thoughts please.

Q: I currently own the following banks (weightings): TD (5%), BNS (5%), BMO (2%). I'm assuming that swapping BMO (and its 2% weighting) for GSY would be better diversification, correct ?

Would this move create a big exchange of risk ?

Could GSY survive a prolonged economic downturn - eg. is the housing bubble a risk ?

Is today's valuation already pricing in a potential "tough lending environment" ?

In that scenario, would they have an adequate balance sheet survive ?

Q: Today, do you see more future growth from owning a S&P 500 etf like VFV or from a balanced equity (BE) portfolio? I own all the BE stocks in my portfolio, and I have some new money to invest. Which 4 BE stocks would you over weight at this time ie what is your highest conviction stocks? Could you give a brief reason why? Would you wait until the US Feds raise rates coming in September? The markets dropped the last time the Fed raised the rate. Do you know the date? Or just invest right now?
