Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Greetings guys.

Question: If you had to split a 5% position among the names above, using strength of balance sheet, dividend growth, eps growth and valuation as determining factors, which name or names would you select and what percentage would you allocate to them.

Do you think the utility / alternative energy sector is a decent place to invest in against the backdrop of a rising rate environment. Theoretically, what weighting in a portfolio would you make this sector.

Thanks.

John

Q: I hold the above companies (pretty much at equal weights) in my Utilities portfolio. I need to trim because I am overweight in the sector. Perhaps I should reduce the number of holdings by 1 full position. May I please have your opinion. Thank you.

Q: I hold the above stocks in my RRIF and plan on transferring 'in kind' one of the stocks into my non registered account. Which one do you consider most appropriate and why?
Thanks and enjoy your time off. RAM

Q: I have to raise some cash in my non registered account. Please rank (with some reasoning) the named companies from most desirable to least desirable . I will likely have to sell 2 of them.
Thanks once again RAM

Q: Since mid-year when VNR hit $23, it has been on a steady decline and then, of course, with the new threat on renewables, it has dropped considerably. Q3 showed weakness in Gaz Metro net income and now I await YE results. Any insight into what Q4 looked like? Should I sideline this one and wait for the dust to settle on the renewable threat or should I just sell because VNR will continue to perform poorly?

Q: I have about 9% in utilities in an otherwise balanced portfolio. All these companies have dropped from 5 to 10% in value over the last while. Can you explain this. Should I lighten up on utilities, and if so, which one(s) should I sell? Thanks.

Q: I submitted this question last Thursday and received the auto response that my question had been submitted but since I haven't received a response I will try again.
My question relate to the income portfolio. We own many stock from the 3 portfolios but now that we are about to retire, we are trying to mimic the income portfolio. I understand that if one already owned ET, SPB, VNR, and DH that we should stick with them however, if one was constructing an income portfolio today can you suggest substitutes for these names? Also, given the dividend that ZCL pays, would it be suitable for an income portfolio?
Thank you.
