Q: David Rosenberg recently wrote that one can buy bonds issued by Nat gas companies with spreads of 425 basis points over treasuries. Can you give me some examples of such bonds and Where I can find more information?
Q: Hi, Could you please comment on the quarterly/annual results released today., which appears to be strong. Company also seems to be committing to regular and special dividends through 2024, and returning 50-90% of FCF to shareholders !! Sweat !!! There has been so much pessimism about TOU and NG producers, recently. Do you expect the stock to recover and see better price action, over next 12-18 months ? Thanks
Q: Eric Nuttall was very bullish, almost feverish, on oil (represented by the companies above) while being down on natural gas. To what extent do you agree?
Q: Good afternoon,
If I wanted to lock in a loss on Tourmaline in a non-registered account, and buy it back after the 30-day period, which is my better proxy to hold for those 30days, ARX or POU? or a better suggestion is always appreciated as well.
Thanks very much...
Q: I have some Tou at a much lower price and was considering selling half and waiting a few weeks in hopes that gas price rises and repurchasing at a lower price. Thoughts?
Q: Gas is out of favour right now, and I need to raise some funds. Earlier today I sold ARX, at roughly a 20% loss. After I did that, I thought I should ask for your insight into selling TOU. My first question is when are they due to report their quarterly report. Secondly, I understand they have contracts to sell gas on the Gulf Coast. Will this insulate them enough. Do you feel the present price is taking this into consideration or is it over sold?
Q: Are TOU's special dividends sustainable given the drop in natural gas prices, or are their sales locked in at certain prices? Can you estimate what they may be with current gas prices? Somebody was saying they sell a lot to California, which has much higher NG prices. Thanks for your help
Q: Hi, Could you please share your updated outlook for Tourmaline for 2023 and medium term. Stock price has been lagging the Energy sector, possibly due to steep drop in natural gas prices, for past several weeks. Do you see tide turning any time soon ? Thank You
Q: Peter; BIR can’t seem to get any traction vs other NG companies. The dividend is minuscule - should one assume it won’t be upped anytime soon- seems like dead money . Is there a reason to sell it and look elsewhere- TOU or ? Your thoughts please. Thanks
Rod
Q: I see in one of your latest answers your liking su over cnq wondering what criteria it is that leads you in that direction? Also i hold cnq and wcp and looking to add to my oil and gas holdings. Would you add to my current holdings, or add a third or fourth position say in tou and or su? Thx
Q: I’m trying to understand the parameters of the special dividend being paid by Tourmaline.
The announcement reads: The special dividend is part of Tourmaline’s comprehensive shareholder return plan and will be paid on February 1, 2023 to shareholders of record on January 24, 2023.
Does this mean that you could buy shares on Monday January 16th, sell them on January 25th, and capture the special dividend with the only risk being a drop in the share price over that period?
Somehow this doesn’t seem reasonable to me.
Q: Hi, Toumaline stock has come under pressure, over past 2 weeks. Natural Gas prices have also been trending lower for some time, with today's reports about warmer weather forecasts for USA and Europe, through January, 2023. What is your outlook on NG and LNG prices and supply/demand situation, for 2023 and beyond ? Do you believe that despite near term headwinds, stock could continue to outperform and should be part of ownership, in Energy sector ? Thank You
Q: Hi, I am in the camp that fossil fuel industry will be a place to be in 2023. With that said do you feel it is better to be in a fund such as NNRG or XLE or to be in individual companies either CDN or US? If so, can you give a few with some good dividends that you would recommend to look at. Thanks
I own 500 shares of TOU. Because I bought them a couple years ago and trimmed as they rose, my dollar cost average on these shares is zero!! This position accounts for 24.5% of my portfolio, but is such a great holding that I am reluctant to sell any of it!!
I know it is a bad idea to become married to a holding, but with the dividend and special dividends this holding is providing, I am reaping approx 10% return this year!! How do I replace that kind of a return, and what would your advice be? Would you consider CWB as a good option for a new position (I own 225 shares of BNS as my only other bank holding.
