Q: I have 100,000 US to invest in RSP. would you recommend a mix of these 3 OR put it all into VWO? Suggestions?

Q: I am retired living on dividend income. I just sold my EFN as it hasn't really done anything the past two years. I have a small position of ECN from the spinoff and am wondering if I should add my EFN proceeds to ECN?
I am ok with the 1% yield as an income investor if you expect above average capital gains over the next 2-3 vs bank stocks (TD or BNS).
Or if ECN returns will be similar to TD or BNS, then I will sell ECN also and just invest the proceeds into the bank stocks.

Q: When I was constructing my portfolio I decided to buy WPK instead of CCL.B because CCL had just had a big run up and was starting to look expensive. I feel CCL is a superior company overall but at the time I thought Winpak might outperform in the shorter term. My question is for a 5+ year hold would you now make the switch from WPK to CCL? Would you expect CCL to outperform WPK enough to justify this switch in a 5+ year timeframe.

Q: I feel both Oil & Gas are going to make a modest comeback over the next 6 months and would like to increase my exposure. I currently hold full positions in VET, PEY and ENB and collectively they represent about 10% of my equity holdings and equities represent about 60% of my total portfolio. Do you think it is OK to add to this space and if so What would you suggest I add to diversify this group?

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

In our combined portfolio, we hold the following Industrials: BAD, EIF, KBL, NFI, SIS, and STN. In this group, we're frustrated with EIF and are just breaking when considering its healthy dividend. I like your idea of "forever" stocks and note that CNR is your pick in this sector. My questions are: Given that all of the above (with the exception of EIF) are performing well, would you be OK with replacing EIF with CNR, or perhaps you have a better suggestion? Are there too many Industrials in our portfolio and is it time to exit one or more of the group?

Q: Good morning 5i,

I've held RX for a while and have been frustrated by its performance for some time. Thankfully the stock has been on the move up for the last 9 months. Today it finally reached my break even price and I'm strongly inclined to walk away with my original investment. Could you please provide your thoughts on the company, its current prospects, and if you would continue to ride the momentum or look to greener pastures?

Q: I opened a self-directed RESP for my new born. Do you suggest starting with ETF's or specific stocks? If ETF's or stock, what do you suggest is a good starting investment and dollar amount for ETF or stock given that we have at least 18 years before needing the funds. If ETF's first at what point do we start investing in specific companies? I guess I'm also trying to get an idea of how to build my sons RESP portfolio.

Q: Hi,
I am new to your website and service but find it great so far. I have not seen any discussion of stop loss orders. I use them on occasion to protect profits and cut losses, but sometimes with misgivings. Sometimes they save me money from a deteriorating position that I might otherwise be ambivalent about selling. Sometimes I just get stopped out and have to buy back higher. I am always trimming and adding and hence may be viewed more of a trader than a long-term investor, but that is my style. C'est la vie! Anyway, do you use stop losses in your portfolio management or do they not fit your approach to the market?
