Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: This is a follow-up to the Sept. 11th question where you mentioned other funds that are similar to this. Could you name a couple that you would recommend please? Thanks.

Q: I am retired but with a small consulting business that has cash sitting in an investment account. I have some concern about the valuation of the current markets and looking to invest with some tilt towards safety realizing nothing is guaranteed. I think ETFs may add a small amount of safety. With that in mind, I am looking at the following ETFs: XUT, XSU, XST, VIDY, TECH, TEC, JXI:US, FEQT with a slightly higher position in FEQT.

I would greatly appreciate your comments/thoughts and suggestions for improvements.

Thanks for this super service!

Q: Sometimes when markets feel a little "frothy" I wonder what is behind the movement. I think one causal factor would be that certain investment managers, such as for larger pension funds, have cash flowing from contributions weekly (or at some regular interval) and they MUST keep cash balances within the range of their investment portfolio objectives so they need to buy SOMETHING!

If this in any way accurate? How much does it move the needle? What other strategies can these managers use to reduce volatility? (Maybe this comes full circle to Dollar Cost Averaging and that much of the time the market is at a new all-time high.)

Thanks!!

Q: Ewing Morris has increased its all cash offer to $4.10 from $3.85. Conditions apply. The initial offer and now the increase raises questions that I can not really even guess at figuring out. While that may be the same for you I am asking for your comments on the initial offer and now the increase to $4.10. I lean towards accepting the offer as I have a significant holding but also a huge capital gain. Btb.un is trading at $3.85 today so not that close to $4.10 in my opinion and that seems like a reluctance on the part of buyers to see this offer as a done deal. Of course there is the 8 million limit. Thank you for your comments.

Q: As you said about DND in the last answer 'that's just this week' and the week wasn't over!

If you looked at DND as a target and assume it can get a fair valuation for its business, what do you think that range is? or in other words if someone believed they could buy the business and not the drama what is the range? Any guesses on who might be buyers?

Q: I have some money to deploy in my partner's TFSA and RRSP, and they currently have the following holdings. As we move towards retirement, the objective is to hold more income and defensive stocks. What three might you add today, and what three would sell from this list? Thank you for your insights.

Q: How do you approach a market like one we are in now? We have gone pretty well straight up since the April lows with a lot of names having increased substantially.

If one is almost fully invested right now but has new money to put to work. Do you hold off putting new money to work until a correction? Do you start to raise a little cash and take some profits on the nice run (5-10%)?

Q: Hi Peter…QS and GLW announced yesterday an agreement for the development and commercialization of ceramic separators presumably for QS’s batteries. There were no details. I think this is another positive step for QS and also for GLW too. No financial details were provided in the press release. Does Bloomberg have any information on the joint venture? Any change in QS’s short interest? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.
Incidentally Jim Cramer appears to be quite bullish on GLW generally. I suppose if your company might just be making parts for an improved EV automotive battery that would be a positive. “Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door”!
Thanks,
Jim

Q: I have been a shareholder of the trade desk for many years and still have 123% gains.. I am questioning. what should I do with this company? I wonder if the future is still good. What would you do? Would you hold or sell? If you sell, you have a better investment you would put the money at work for the next five years. thanks a lot.

Q: I am sitting on cash to invest. I have been thinking about waiting until the US and China at least come to a "partial agreement" on trade. So that we have some certainity around that and how companies can move forward. I understand there are many points on both sides to negotiate and a "final deal" could take a long time or the other issues NOT able to resolve in an agreement. What advise would you have about investing the cash now or should I wait for a partial agreement? Or should I invest now but stay out of the US stock market? Your input would be appreciated.
