Q: Nazim asked a question today that has been on my mind, "why hold stocks?" To follow up on your answer in which you opined that much of the downside may already have factored into prices, how can that be? The market is only down to levels it was at in the fall/summer. I am a long term investor but I moved to cash last week because of the risks. In weighing the potential downside risks (which could be huge) vs short term upside, why stay in the market? I just don't see how the effects of this virus will not be a lot worse than what has already been accounted for in the market. People are not going out, travelling, etc. and this must have a huge effect on the market going forward. Is this not a recipe for a recession? In which case, why not get out of the kitchen?

Q: You have mentioned the banks deposit base and cost of funding in answer to a few questions. I am wondering what it is the banks fund with deposits?

Q: Hi folks,
In view of the coronavirus concerns, which are the companies you would recommend now as likely to grow strongly in the search for a vaccine or in the production of the equipment needed for fighting the spread of this virus ? Could you as well indicate the degree of risk involved in such companies and an order of priorities for the most interesting now ? As a start, what about GILD, INO, MRNA, REGN, SNY ?
Please deduct as many credits as you see fit.
And make sure you stay healthy…...we need you more than ever !

Q: Further to my question yesterday, Clearwater announced today that it has received expressions of interest to buy the company. There is big insider ownership and the largest shareholders may want to take the company private.
Q: Do you think that dividend is safe here? If they cut it in half, would this still be worth holding for a few years in registered acct?

Q: 5i Team,
I'm curious what I'm missing in analyzing GUD? They're about a week or so away from reporting the first results of the acquisition, which should start to put them at a run rate of slightly less than $300M in revenues.
They should also have, once the dust clears have about $300M in cash left.
No debt, incredible growth, and a cash hoard for another major acquisition and it trades below book?
What am I missing?
Thanks!

Q: Hi
I am trying to build a portfolio based on ETFs. Could you provide me with a list of recommended ETFs, grouped by sector and sample weightings for each sector. I am looking for income first followed by some growth. I am retired, have a pension and would be comfortable with moderate risk as well a 70 equity - 30 fixed split. I understand that this list would just be a start. I would do more research on my own. Thanks, Len

Q: The last narration re NNO was Dec 18 about the solid endorsement but little detail re St Gobain and a more formal relationship which should eventually attract interest. Short term revenue not anticipated but was overall considered a positive development.
At the time NNO was @ $1.15, it spiked twice and is now back down to $1.21. Do you still consider this a hold? I am down 10% right now which is where I begin looking at liquidating.
Thanks for all you do
gm

Q: I have CCL.B in a few of my portfolios; do you think its time to sell and replace? I allocate 50% of CCL.B to Consumer Staples and 50% to Materials. Right now CAE is the only Material security that interests me, are there others that you would recommend, I don't want MX. I have PBH and ATD.B in Consumer Staples and could add to either of these or are there others that I should consider. I'm a buy and hold type of investor; with a growth focus.
