Q: What do you know of XBC's management? How would you rate them, both excluding what is happening now and including current affairs?

In your report on the company in December 2020, you state:
Management is well-seasoned and has public company experience, including former top executives (CEO, CFO, COO) of various energy and industrial companies like CAE Inc (CAE) and McPhy Energy North America. Have they ever experienced anything like what they are going through with XBC now? How important is the involvement of CDPQ who invested $50M?

5i advanced XBC as a top growth company, as recently as March 10. Your report outlines your reasoning back in 2020. Obviously it's a different picture today. Any lessons learned?

Q: I did not buy XBC because of the revenue or profit it was generating today. I bought it for future potential which leads me to ask you if the news - though bad - changes the fundamental story here or if it is still a company with huge potential that has to correct a situation and learn from it? To put it another way, is the technology and value proposition that XBC offers its clients worse today because of the adjusted numbers?

My take is that we are not at the end of the clean energy but at the beginning. Their growth rates are not what investors thought and that isn't good but if their technology and TAM are huge (and in the early innings) how is it not materially higher in 5 years? If 5i looks past the next 12 months on this and ignores the stock price is the story intact?

Your comment to another question was that you have a finger on the sell trigger which sounds to me that you fear more than just an accounting error(s). Is the fear that this is a VRX situation with imaginary sales in a systemic way?

Q: Hi,
Have a 1.55% position now, avg price $5.36. Had a nice double on it before but down now, which is disappointing for sure. It's closing in on that $4 price which you were concerned about breaking. What are the different scenarios you see playing out come the March 24th full release? Can you give any insight on what additional or further news could impact the stock either up or down going forward. Thanks!

Q: Hi 5i,
GSY has always been a thin trader. There was a question yesterday about several companies being added to the TSX composite. You said that trading volume will increase and GSY will benefit the most. I understand a pickup in volume as funds that track the TSX take their positions in GSY. Once that is done, won’t GSY settle back to its old thin self?
Thanks again.

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,

Sorry for yet another question about Xebec. I realize that stocks in the growth portfolio are by nature quite volatile, and since this holding is in a TFSA, and XBC closed today (Friday) with a loss in the account of 36.6%, we're wondering (based on your long experience in bull and bear markets or when a particular stock runs into difficulties), what kind of timeline we 'could' expect to recoup this loss.. We're aware that the 'green' sector, of which Xebec is a key player, stands to benefit from environmental initiatives and programs from different governments, including our Canadian regime, and the Biden administration, among others. However, since Xebec's problems appear to be somewhat company related, what advice can you offer? I should add that we both are fortunate to have defined-benefit pensions, and don't need the TFSA funds, but it's certainly gut-wrenching to see such a loss in one day! Your guidance is always greatly valued.

Q: Good Morning Peter & Team,

Lots of questions have been asked already. Everyone will be in the red on this one I am sure. Things happen.

My Question? What would your bottom line advice be today? Sell and take the loss ahead of quarterlies in 2 weeks? Or hang in there and look towards a rebound in the coming months/years?

Thanks for all you do
