Q: Hi team,
What is your view of QSR given recent earnings which were strong and the current short attack on the stock? This morning on CNBC I saw a story on some U.S. bigwig (Chanos) shorting QSR and Dunkin Donuts as he sees their “asset lite” model of “clipping coupons” from the franchisees not working in the longer term if the franchisees are struggling. What’s your take on this short guy’s story and the pressure on the stock? How long does this tend to play out and what is your confidence level on QSR going forward?

Q: I hold Teck and Nutrien with the balance of my resource holdings in XMA. I have an equal amount of funds in each. I am considering selling XMA to purchase LIF. I know this will give me less diversity, but Teck and Nutrien are major weights in XMA which is otherwise heavy in gold stocks with low dividends and weak growth. At least LIF would give me decent dividends. What do you think? Thanks.

Q: Fanuc corp has really taken a hit. I’m down 22% with a position of about 1 1/2% position in my portfolio. Do you think it’s worth adding to the position? Why is it down so much?

Q: Can you comment the last financial results and give your opinion on this company? What can I expect for the short/medium term if I hold on? Q: I hold these 3 bowzers and am obviously getting whipped. Is there any sound logic in combining the 3 into just one of them and that one would have the highest probability of the quickest recovery? I would turn to 5I for advice on which one that would be.

Q: I am new to 5i. My question pertains to portfolio management within 5i portfolios.

I have read your paper on when to sell a security - it is an interesting article. I am wondering if you have a similar paper on when to buy a security? Members who joined at inception have benefited by your portfolios. I am following your BE portfolio and have slowly transitioned my exiting portfolio to resemble your BE portfolio. At the end of last quarter I purchased AIF, ENB, WSP, SJ, SLF, KXS, COV and VB. With the exception of WSP all are underwater.

I have read enough of your posts to gather you avoid market timing and instead take a long view of five or more years. The markets in the USA are late cycle, rising rates, inflation and global tensions are front and center. On several occasions you recommend members raise cash to protect against market downturns however your BE portfolio has a 3% cash weighting .

My question is - do you have a paper on when to purchase securities you have deemed worthy of purchase and how should members raise cash within your portfolios?
