Q: Good morning 5i. I am considering "parking" about 10% of my portfolio in "cash equivalents". Are CVD and CPD your preferences in this case as I see they pay out roughly 5% which seems a reasonable risk/reward scenario? Are there other options or recommendations that you might consider? Q: Hi 5i team,
I am not a value guy as you know from my questions, but I do mix in a sprinkling here and there. There seems to be some speculation by U.S. analysts that GM could or should spin off its electric vehicle division into a public company and that would attract a much higher market multiple. In the past, you were not very positive on GM and its prospects. Given the spectacular run of TSLA, has your opinion changed at all on GM, given its electric vehicle assets, and what would you consider to be the likelihood of a spinoff?

Q: Hi Peter and 5i team,

I currently have BIPC and BEPC shares in my TFSA account, and I expect to hold them for the long term. Is it worth paying a transfer fee to move those shares to my CAD non-registered account in order to be able to recover any US taxes paid on dividends.

Q: I hold ET in a registered account, and as it is a MLP I've had non-resident taxes withheld from dividends. They have indicated that they will likely convert to a c-corporation, and I'm wondering how that would affect the withholding tax on distributions, and if that would automatically mean a lower distribution.

Q: I have been looking at this company, and can't understand the steep discount on its share prices. I understand the Dakota Access Pipeline issues, and the fact that "energy companies" are generally in disfavour, but the cash flow looks solid and rateable, and debt levels are high, but sustainable and interest rates are lower, not higher, so debt levels look not so bad. What am I missing here??? Am I glossing over some risks???

Q: Retired dividend-income investor. Sitting on 6% cash. Looking to add some gold exposure. Do you think there is more upside to gold over the next couple of years? For the most part, I am a buy-and-hold investor, not a short term trader. Is there an ETF that a) pays a dividend > 3% and b) that contains both the miners and bullion? If not, what would be the best route to get sector exposure, leaning to the conservative side? Thanks...Steve

Q: It's been awhile since you commented Fronsac stock. Last earnings looks very good, they mostly rent to gaz stations, fast foods and some grocery stores. Can you comment earnings?

Q: I owned Dow stock before it split into 3 separate companies and now I own shares in all 3. I've kept the shareholders and haven't touched them since the split. Do you prefer one of these companies over any others? I plan to add to this position (which is now 3 stocks instead of one). I am unsure if I should add to all 3, or pick the 'best' one. Can you offer some insight?

Q: I hold NFI at a huge loss. recently the Globe and mail reported that Adam Gray, who sits on the board of directors, acquired a total of 152,300 shares at a price per share of $15.20 increasing this account’s holdings to 4,507,746 shares. The cost of this investment totaled over $3.8-million, not including trading fees.

This represents about 4% of outstanding shares of this company. Your opinion please on if it is wise to average down or just take my losses and move on,

Q: What are your thoughts on Garmin as an investment? It even near it's 52 week high it doesn't seem overly expensive. Is this because they're a mobile hardware company competing with Apple? I do a lot of road and mountain biking and it seems like every other bike has a Garmin mounted on the handle bars. Did I miss all the growth on this one or do you think it's got plenty left?

Also it looks like it still hasn't recovered from the '08 recession. Do you know what happened to them back then or why it's taken so long to recover?
