Q: Having read todays word from you on DOL, would you be buying at this time. Also would one be adding to BNS. Presently have a partial position but wondering about the next few years and loan defaults. Regards

Q: You've recently mentioned the potential effect of activities of money managers on this market, specifically buying and selling to make targets to ensure their best bonus and keeping up with their competitors.

When does this sort of "bonus securing" activity occur-now near the end of the year? Every quarter?

I suppose I'm hoping to know when large institutional buying and selling are at their highest and lowest, over the course of a year.

Q: My question relates to the latest type of prefs , the minimum rate test preferred. As a broker who has been retired some time.i am knowable about the rise and fall of prefs as they relate to rising or falling interest rates. But I struggle with understanding the minimum rate reset prefs. For example ECN.PR.A pays a 6.50 % div based on issue price. Given the current 5 yr rate the reset would be above the minimum rate. No matter what you would get 6.5%.
I know that other factors influence the trading price eg quality and the market itself etc.
Is this type of investment , all other things being equal that you would buy for the short as well as long term. I’m a very senior senior.

Q: Spruce Point has written some quite negative things about Dollarama such as saturation of the market, more competition than expected or mentioned, buying back stock at inflated prices to line the pockets of upper management & buying the distribution centre in the east of Canada rather than building one in the west to enrich the family that began the business in 1992.I'm down a ton on this stock so I'd appreciate your comments on the above accusations. They value the stock at $25 with hopes at best of it going to $43.00. Thanks as always for your valued insights.

Q: Hi 5i team,

I am 65 and want to invest my TFSA money into 3 equity ETFs, one for US, one for Int’l and one for emerging markets. I am prudent investor that prefer companies with some growth but decent valuation, strong balance sheets and stable business. Nothing too aggressive. Could you please suggest ETFs for TFSA that suit my needs and are traded in C$ and hedged? Thanks.
