Looking for some perspective about exiting the above listed energy laggards and reallocating the funds to a consumer defensive position.

Q: I've noted lately that Canadian pipeline company's price appreciation is actually doing better than usual. I currently own PPL, ALA, and ENB, all of which are making good gains, (especillay Pembina). I find this unusual for companies that pay such high dividends.. Just wondering if my observation is correct and if so why is this happening? Also, do you think in the present environment the rate of appreciation of their stock prices will continue upwards for the short and long term?

Q: The phrase “Don’t trust anyone over 30” was coined in the 60’s, but as I head into CPP eligibility age I’m kind of leaning the other way, and so hope Peter can answer this one.

I remember the energy crisis of the 70’s, stagflation, price and wage controls and bought a home after the housing bubble burst in the 80’s and watched many of my new neighbours wait 10 years or more to get back to what they had paid. I loved rolling over 90 day GIC’s (remember Trust Companies?) at double digit interest rates but wasn’t invested in equities.

Specifically on the question of stagflation, if we end up in that horrible scenario again is there such thing as a good stock to hold? If so, can you provide 5 to 10 that you would want in your portfolio?

Q: What are your thoughts on BABA short term. It seems to be so beaten up that any good news is pushing it up rapidly. How does it look on a valuation stand point if it ends up being a long term hold

Q: Have held SLF a number of years(registered income producing account), and have a 67% capital gain not counting dividends. I am thinking of taking the profit and re deploying to POW. Rational: higher dividend, trading in the lower/middle of it's 1 year range and analysts giving it more upside potential, more global exposure? (Europe). Do you see this as a reasonable move or am I trading down in quality for the additional yield

Reference your answer to a member question yesterday 'SHOP had an unusual spike close on Friday and was up $122. Today it is down $110 and still up over two days. On the TSX where there was no spike the stock is down $20 only today.'

Q: This was one you had liked in the past, and certainly with tightness continuing with chips, and therefore reduced new automobile supply, this used car auctioneer I thought would have held up better in these volatile markets. Are you still as keen on this one, or would you use this holding as a source of funds for other ideas. Essentially, is it a 'soft' hold at this point?

My daughter who is 40 with an over 10 year time line and does not need the funds, is down 50% with BYD. Should she let it go and put the left over into something else or hang in?

Q: Hello, from looking at the long-term chart of Sherwin-Williams, it appears that this a compounder stock with a good underlying business. Since you last commented in January, the stock has had a bit of a pullback. Any updates on your broad thoughts around valuation and prospects for the for the near-to-mid term (1-2 years), and whether you like this name?
