Q: Hi 5i team,

PA suggests I up my utilities by 5%. I was thinking of adding two stocks one being AQN at 2.5% to 3%. Can you please suggest a few large and mid cap companies that would complement AQN.

Q: I just recently retired and within my portfolio have approx 60% in Bonds (As per above) - while these have been a great hedge against the equity holdings, I am considering either selling some of the bonds listed above - approx 10% and moving these monies into either high yield bonds - ie CHB or ZHY or if not into high yield bonds possibly a high yield dividend fund like XEI or ZWC or ?
While I would like to increase the income on these monies - do you think this is a good time to make this move?

Q: Hi Folks,

Looking for your sage opinion please. I've owned CCL Industries for a few years and have done very well - up about 150% in a taxable account (thanks for making me aware of the company years ago). It's not a big holding (2.5% of my equity portfolio). CCL.B seems to be struggling and at one point I was probably up closer to 200%.

My question is should I lose confidence in the company at this point, sell the shares and pay the capital gains tax (I have a fairly low marginal tax rate right now), or should I hold? I do note CCL.B has the early appearance of turning the corner to better results.

Thank you for your opinion and also for the significant investment gains I have made for several years now with 5i's support. Because of you I have done really well on CSU, SHOP, FNV, WSP, ATD.B, IWO as well as others.

I hold both these companies, both of which are trading at about half of book value. I was thinking of selling one of these and using the proceeds to top up the other holding. Looking forward a couple of years, and seeing which company has delivered better returns, which company would you favour and why.

I read in Bloomberg "investors are pricing in expectations of higher volatility around the elections ... In the stock market, investors have been purchasing volatility protection extending beyond November."
Can you please guide me what that volatility protection purchasing would actually be ? Is volatility protection only for investors who don't want to stomach the turbulence, or is there a broader interest in it? Many thanks for sharing your market wisdom.
