Q: I’m in the process of sector analysis. My online brokerage HSBC isn’t much of a help, listing most companies under their sector name of “services”. Could you help with the above names. In the past I’ve split Bip.un into 75% utilities and 25% energy. Many thanks for all you do!

Q: I have read the recent AD questions and have listened to BNN Market Call guests answering questions on AD. A theme expressed by a few guests, and echoed in a 5iR answer to Peter's Sept 20 question, was why doesn't Alaris management just write off the problem partner companies and get rid of all of the negative uncertainty. In other words, take the hit now and move on.
My question = could you review each of the 3-4 underlying problem partner companies related to the recent quarter announcement and has Alaris management successfully nailed down a worst case scenario? ie: does it look like the worst is over as it relates to the current batch of problem companies?
Thanks...Steve

Q: Will the closing of Sears (SCC) directly effect any of its rivals?
Hudsons Bay (HBC)

Is there a significant chance for these companies to capitalize on a hole in the market with Sears gone?

Q: You indicated that MG, like many other companies, will be or have bought back shares. Once the shares are repurchased what happens: a) do the shares reside with MG and can be resold at a later date? Or B) the shares deleted from the total pool of shares under MG? ie the share count is forever reduced. Or c) something else?
Many thanks.

Q: From the list of us growth play, which 5 would you pick for your rrsp with 10-15 yrs time frame ? Or any other us stocks that stands out in your mind.
Q: Apologies in advance for the length of this question. I am working my way through a report by Bank of America Merrill Lynch on the medium to long term prospects of VR, AR and MR, (Virtual reality, Augmented Reality and Mixed Reality). The upshot is basically that they see very large growth in this sector with applications far and wide. Here is a link for anyone interested https://www.bofaml.com/content/dam/boamlimages/documents/articles/ID16_1099/virtual_reality_primer_short.pdf. There are established large tech companies (FB, AAPL and GOOGL) who are buying up companies in this area and there are smaller companies already working in this space. My question is twofold. Is it, in your estimation a good time to step into these large cap tech stocks if I currently have no position? And are there any companies that are directly in this space that you would recommend? Thank-you in advance.
Q: May you please comment on MG's earnings?
Thanks

Q: In our grand-daughters' trust accounts, they each have exposure to banks, insurance, pipeline, energy E&P, utility, and REITs. There is available cash in the accts to open a new position. Would you add to a present sector or start a new one (i.e. materials, industrial, health care, etc) If starting a new sector, which looks the most promising at present and could you recommend 2 or 3 dividend paying ETFs in the sector ( ideally over 3%). Looking at a 5-7 years time frame. Thanks so much for a great website and much valued advice. don

Teck Resources Limited Class B Subordinate Voting Shares (TECK.B $44.41)
-
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Limited American Depositary Shares (TEVA $16.42)
Q: Hi,
It seems that many of your members have noticed the decline in TEVA and are optmistic for its recovery. This situtation reminds me a bit of TECK from 2015. I never purchased TECK back in 2015 when it was sub $5 because you cautioned about its debt level. TECK has since gained to $27. Do you have more concerns about TEVA now than you did about TECK two years ago? There is certainly upside to TEVA, but a cheap stock can always get cheaper.
Even now, the short interest (according to my RBC account is less than 7%). Have the short sellers moved on from this one?
What is the probability of bankruptcy? If this isn't likely, how much worse can it really get?
