Q: This floating reset preferred share, bought for "portfolio stability and income", is down 43% as its yield is tied to prime, and many other more attractive prefs are available. Would you hold in anticipation of future price appreciation , or move on. No tax loss needed!
Q: Hi team, Just a comment. It is so frustrating....what is wrong with MDA? Nothing! But people seem to like to trade for a maximum of a week! which of course causes my gains to come at a much distant future!
Patience is good, but sometimes one doesn't have the time (read AGE) for it.
Have a nice day!
Q: Do you believe sustained low energy prices could significantly impact business of renewable energy cos., specifically BEP, RNW, AQN, NPI, BIP.UN per the IEA comments below. How could this play out and which companies would be most vulnerable? Thanks.
The IEA fears that low prices for all fossil fuels, including coal and natural gas, will sideline the renewable energy push in some countries. In the developing world, coal is becoming irresistibly cheap, encouraging the construction of coal-fired generating plants that spew out horrendous amounts of pollutants and greenhouse gases.
“We see the cost of renewables going down, but in a low-oil-price environment, we may well see that some governments may weaken their support for renewable energies or efficiency improvements,” Mr. Birol said. “We have been telling governments that it would be a historical mistake to lessen the support on renewables and efficiency as the price of fossil fuels becomes cheap. Let me be clear: Lower oil prices are a risk for the transformation of energy.”
Q: Thoughts on earnings and the future outlook? Do you feel they will be able to continue double digit growth and showing value despite the ongoing Alberta headwinds... Seems to be priced very attractively vs. NAV and their track record.

Q: I've been holding TRP stock for quite a number of years. Looking at long-term chart comparisons of TRP and ENB, it's obvious that ENB has outperformed. Short-term charts, though, are showing that ENB has been dropping considerably more than TRP, so, in a recovery, could one now expect more upside from ENB than from TRP? I'm wondering, namely, whether this presents a good opportunity to trade my TRP for ENB. Thanks!
Q: Royal's latest preferred offering seem to be surprisingly good one, is it?? 5.5%yield and 4.53% reset. Is it a good buy? How will future interest increase effect the price? Is it trading, has a trading symbol?
Many thanks for your help. J.A. P, Burlington
Q: I originally purchased Enbridge early this year at $65. I purchased more at $49. Today it is $43 . I am contemplating averaging down again and buying more. Do you think that is a good idea or do you think Enbridge is still likely to go lower still?? (I thought $49 was a low). Thanks for your opinion.
Q: Doing my research on sys. and noticed that according to Canadian Insider stock based compensation went from $59k to $3.6 million last year this seems excessive to me considering the earnings/loss. Wondering what you think?
Q: Hi Peter and 5i team,
We have shares of Com dev and we are thinking of selling [ in TFSA ]. Do you still think that MacDonald Dettwiler or another company will make a better offer? Do you have any suggestions for another growth name keeping in mind that we hold the appropriate percentile of large caps and bonds.
thank you for your advice
SGY just released its 2016 capital budget and guidance after closing today. Do you think their presented scenarios are realistic and attainable?
I'm down close to 50% on this name and I wonder if I should rough it out for another year, or just give up and do a tax loss selling before YE. I would have done that already if not for I'm already sitting on a big capital loss position for 2015. No need benefit to add more tax losses at this stage.
Q: Hi, I have my portfolios set up similarly to the three 5i portfolios. With the recent drop, I'm looking to invest more cash. Could I please get your top 5 picks from each of the three portfolios? Also, thanks for updating the site for mobile, it's so much easier to navigate than before. Cheers,
Q: Morning ... well the 'cat is out of the bag' much to my dismay our 2016 TFSA contribution will be back to the $5500 limit ...an added * was that 2017 would have inflation written into our limit amount. Basically that is how we got $5500 from $5000 was because of inflation. My question is would I be correct in presuming that 2017 may go up $500 ? and also if I sell from Non registered now can I buy the same stock in TFSA on January 4th or do I have to wait 30 days. TY for all you do during these most troublesome times.
