Q: I am a little confused by a comment I read in the financial press which suggested that insurance company stocks may actually be poor buys now because rising interest rates lower the value of their significant bond portfolios. I thought that rising interest rates would aid insurance companies by making their long term liabilities more manageable.

Is this the same type of comment that is voiced by some talking heads complaining about current rising interest rates hurting the economy while you point out that rising rates means the economy is improving, a viewpoint that is confirmed by most data and the continually rising market itself.

So is the comment on rising rates being bad for insurance companies simply a comment from some guy who is trying to be different just to stand out or is there validity in this thinking?

Are there any pure auto insurance companies to invest in, my thinking is that with the use of sensors etc accidents will be greatly reduced and insurance companies will not be passing savings on to consumers.

Q: Hello i5, Please help me to understand why cm.pr.p @$18.26,paying 4.26%div,redeemable @$25.00 with a floating rate feature trading at, in my view, a large discount price? or is it? Please explain how the actual floating is, in terms of %div on this preferred. Also would appreciate receiving a couple more alike rate reset ones at lower than redeem Price. Q: I'm interested in VGK, VWO and VPL. They've all been doing quite well for some time now. Would you wait for some weakness before buying, or do you expect that all these funds will continue to outperform? I notice that the first two funds are doing a bit better than their Canadian-dollar counterparts, VE and VEE. Would you attribute that mainly to the composition of the funds? Q: Ok, Shop is on a tear. What type of financials would the company have to show in 3 years to justify today's price?? Should we be viewing it on the same metrics as Amazon in its early years??
