Q: I have a small position at higher prices, with its recent results, do you think it's wise to average down a bit? I usually don't average down often.

Q: 9 days ago Power Corporation declared EPS of 0.90, 18% above the consensus. Since then it's in a strong downtrend. These days it's the stocks that miss earnings that get punished. It's now below the 50 day MA. Over the last 15 days, on down days, the volume was average so it's not weak volume. The stock is cheap and pays a dividend of 4.1%. Out of all my holdings, this one makes the least sense. Can you dig into the earnings to help me find what BayStreet didn't like? It must be more than the weak market. If there's nothing, can you share anything in the technicals I may have missed? Thanks!

Q: Hello team,

I'm interested in your take on the continued sell-off on ATA. The disappointing quarter aside, do you think the softness now speaks to concern about the currency move in China and the ripple effects that would have on North American manufacturing? Is their exposure in Asia and beyond not diversified enough to insulate them for any softness in North America.

Q: Peter, it was interesting to watch the CEOs of both companies on BNN recently. Both seem like very bright young men although it was far easier to warm to the TCN boss yesterday vs the AVO boss a week or so ago (based upon their demeanours). Is that just them ? or a reflection of how their companies have been performing ?

Q: Hi, recently read the Moody article on oil prices. Wondering if you know of any web link or a future article you can write about the break-even oil cost for our canadian energy companies in order to survive? (i.e. Lightstream Resources Ltd. and Northern Blizzard Resources Inc. have among the highest costs at $102.52 and 130.88 a barrel)?

Q: Good afternoon. Could I please have your thoughts on Twin Butte as a potential value/income play following Q2 results earlier this week, Among other 'highlights', the company indicates that debt has been reduced to 1.3 times cash flow, with YOY operating costs reduced by 19%. The dividend has been cut by 70% and the payout ratio reduced to 48%. Realize there are risks, as with most oil & gas companies these days.

Q: I would like to get back into Canadian banks. I still own a small position in TD and BNS but my largest positions are in US banks. TD is often touted as more American than Canadian. In that sense TD seems like a very poor performer when looking at it on the NYSE. When comparing it to Wells Fargo for example TD is down 25% on the year while WFC is up 14%. This must spook american investors and its not looking as like a good choice when selecting banks. Should we just stay with US banks and let TD/BNS find a bottom?

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

Referencing your last comment on Intertain. Looking at the daily historical data for the past month on the Stockhouse site I would not consider 1.06M as low volume. The reported numbers are the highest daily level in a month. Is there something other than Friday summer trading going on here?

Q: Hello Peter & team, Seems BNS is the "winner" here. It could be affected by being exposed in L.Am. to miners PLUS being affected the MOST of all Canadian banks due to its exposure to oil/gas sector in Canada, with "cracks" starting to show in Q4 and early 2016 (as the article suggests). And who knows for how long low oil prices will persist....maybe it will stay low for ever due to supply that keeps growing. Would you pls. comment on this article.

Q: Hello Peter,
I am unable to decide if I should sell all my positions in the energy sector and perhaps revisit 9-12 months from now. And the reason I hesitate is because there could be a (greater than 70%?) probability that from this level, the returns could be better than the market. I think that given the risk of the sector a 70% threshold makes sense?
If you think I should have sector exposure, would you be kind enough to suggest 6 stocks that I should hold/switch into. I am looking at a 12 month investment period when I may revisit stocks/sector allocations.

Q: What is the best way to convert CDN$ to US$ in order to buy US stocks? Broker fees are expensive. I do buy CDN ETF that hold US stocks but I would like to hold some US stocks directly.

Q: I would like to increase my exposure in a life insurance company. I currently own Sun Life (3%) in a well balanced portfolio which includes US exposure and I am wondering if I should buy more SLF or go south of the border and pick up some AIG. My thinking is that interest rates are set to rise in the US, which is usually good for lifecos while Canadian rates are still lagging.

I realize that some of the interest rate increase is already priced into AIG as it has done will for the past year. But is seems to me that as much as things are "priced in" there is still a reaction when the event itself finally occurs and there will be a lag to earnings until the higher rates actually hit the bottom line.

Do you feel AIG presents a better long term upside or should I stick with SLF?
