Q: Hi Peter,

I'm 32 years old and have $150k in new cash from the recent sale of a business. I'm looking at investing these funds in a variant of your Balanced Equity profile. I'm ok with risk and am wanting a long term investment with a higher upside. Are there are any changes that you would make to the portfolio to match my situation?

Q: Barry Critchley in the FP this morning, reported that both TD Bank and CIBC will be buying back big chunks of shares under NCIB. What does NCIB mean? And, as the article states, each purchase (at a discounted price) won't affect the daily price, it should have an appreciating effect on the price since there would be fewer shares for the same total value of the banks, should it not?

Q: Both of these appear to be breaking down technically at the moment. Would $38.00 and $55.00 be considered good entry points.

Q: your analysis of the results today please. Looks like the turnaround is going well, big increases in EBITDA and debt down significantly. Div increase also a good sign. what is the valuation like, sector compare? Takeover candidate?

Q: Currently have 0% weighting in materials in an otherwise diversified portfolio. With the ability to hold for the next 5-10 years, what would you recommend as your top 5 materials companies?

SWKS has been a top pick over the last two months twice by Bruce Tatters on BNN. Unfortunately, I own this stock and it continues to escalate on the down side. I get bits of negative information from my Itrade account about it. However, you will know a lot more about it than I do. Should I take my losses?

On Dec 29, commodities on Bnn, Andrew Bell had a list of Canadian oil co,s which are the largest producers of condensate
also known as Diluent, used for shipping bitumen. I wanted this list but BNN did not record the clip of this part of the show.
Could you provide the names of Canadian oil co's which produce it. Also, I submitted a question on the night of Jan 11 and have not received a reply. I appreciate your help.

Q: Good morning,

I am looking to find the relative exposure of the big 5 banks to the oil and gas sector. I understand that thus far that the effects of the downturn in the oil patch have been somewhat benign, but it would be helpful to know the potential relative effects of a protracted low oil price on the respective banks (ex National and Cdn Western) based on their exposure to the sector. As well, could you please pass along the bank that you feel is most insulated.

Q: I hold Chartwell REIT and Chemtrade Logistics, 3% and 2.7% respectively. Am looking to add to either (or both?) in this market downturn, for income. What is a good weighting for these companies, and which is the most likely to withstand another barrage of sell-offs? (That is, which sector, which company, is likelier to do well in such an environment.) Thanks!

Q: Canadian banks have all dropped in value YTD by up to 6%. I understand that this is due in part to concerns about energy-related loan losses as well as high consumer debt levels. What is your call on what will cause the declining trend to stop, and when that might be ? From a technical point of view, where is the support level for RY ?

I have a tendency to over diversify: there are so many names I want to own. Subscribing to newsletters like Money Letter, Money Reporter, Investment Reporter and religiously watching BNN/MarketCall fuels the fire. That said, I’m trying to trim down a bit. I have a 5-10 year time horizon (Easier said than done..)
These energy names make up 10% of my portfolio. I’ve obviously rode them down along the way, so I’m hesitant to sell. The moment I do, they’ll roar right back..haha.
I want to participate in the turnaround and I want the dividend yield.
Am I over exposed in energy?
What do you suggest?

Q: Hello, couple of questions here:
- phk-u : do you think it s a good time to add (to 3% total of my portfolio) and why.
- should i sell rsi or still a long term hold for yield (i am down 15%). Reason : only to raise some cash.
- should i sell vln in this environement while i am even (3.5% allocation). Can you comment on valuation and outlook. I am ok to hold for 5 year if good company long term but thinking about raising some cash. Thank you

Q: Can I please have your comment on their Q1 results. I may have read this wrong as I just took a glance but did their advertising revenue jump from just over 2 million last quarter to 7 million this quarter? if so that seems like a substantial jump and hopefully continues.

Q: I am looking at buying some VSN as willing to take a chance on (no) dividend cut.
Can you explain the difference between the Dividend Reinvestment Component and the Premium Dividend Component of the DRIP.I understand the 5% discount but not the 102% cash payment.

Q: I heard about this one to-day on BNN: auto prop. leased to dealership who are responsible for all prop. servicing costs - long-term leases with 1.3% escalation clause annually, long-term debt. just over 3% not due until 2022. Looks like a great set-up - comments please. Have been adding new dealership properties - one just recently.
