UNH is one that rarely seems to selloff. With my experience it’s often a good time to buy quality names when they are on sale. Does it look like UNH is at a good buy level today? Today it’s bouncing a little after many days of selling off.
Next part of the question. I would be looking at trimming a little of either Gsy or Nvda to purchase UNH if I choose to go ahead with the trade . Which would you prefer to trim today? Both Gsy and Nvda are equally overweight for me and in a non registered account with capital gains incurred if I sell. However I have enough built up tax losses at the moment to offset the sale. I hate to sell either one of Gsy or Nvda but with the weightings it makes most sense in my portfolio . Does this trade make sense to you?

Q: What are your thoughts on these two, what do you think of how management have handled the company in the last few years? Are these companies (overly?) reliant on interest rates?

Q: Recently you answered my question regarding US dividend WHT on Canadian domiciled ETF issues (Vanguard Canada, RBC Ishares etc) and noted that withholding taxes are owing on distributions since the Canadian ETF is simply holding the US ETF and the taxes would be levied when distributions are paid by the US ETF to the Canadian ETF.

Some follow up questions:
- I am assuming that the WHT would apply even if the Canadian ETF is held within a registered account?
- Does the WHT explain part of the difference in yield when comparing the US ETF and the Canadian ETF? For example - VIG yields 1.69% while VGG yields 1.17%. Assuming also that the higher MER on VGG also explains part of the yield difference??
- Given these factors - the WHT and higher MER - why would anyone choose the Canadian version of the same ETF. Further to this - In another question posed by Jacques - you point out that the Canadian ETF ZSP would be preferable to VFV since it holds the stocks directly and not thru the US ETF VOO....thereby avoiding WHT's for registered accounts. However - when you look at VOO - the yield is about 26 bp's higher than either VFV and ZSP....again why would you not just buy VOO.

NVO sp is currently down 21 % on negative news of clinical trials on new weight loss drug...Expected weight loss from clinical trial was 25% and drug delivered only 22.7%...
How do you view the market reaction and where do you think sp goes from here...would 5i Take any action on this news?

How would 5i expect these results to affect HIMS going forward and would 5i be interested in starting small position in HIMS...if so, at what price would you consider reasonable.

Q: Everybody knows about tax loss selling late in the calendar year, but I am wondering about the significance of tax GAIN selling in early January. People waiting to sell a stock until the next year in order to delay paying taxes. How much of an impact does this have on stock prices early in the year? What type of stock is more vulnerable to tax gain selling? Obviously, stocks that have large gains, but there are lots of those, and many continue to do well early in January. Do you have any thoughts on which stocks on the TSX might be likely to see share price weakness in early January due to tax gain selling? Does this type of share price weakness typically reverse itself fairly quickly?

Q: For a non -registered account what would be safer for longer hold and dividend ZMI or CT REIT ?

Q: This proposed sale of approx. 2/3 of Gear's (GXE) current oil production for only $110 million is a terrible offer for GXE (very nice for the buyer Cenevous (CVE) especially if they get the benefit of most of Gear's tax pools). GXE is virtually debt free and can afford to pay the existing dividend (currently yielding in excess of 11 per cent) so why is this new management team offering us such an awful deal? If this is the best deal they can make then they should just leave the company as it is. With no debt by early next year Gear could start to buy back shares and when those shares are yielding better than 10 per cent the reverse compounding effect is enormous. It would only cost about 13 million in free cash flow in 2025 to buy back 10 per cent of the float and with 10 per cent of the float gone the .5 cent per month dividend gets easier to easier to pay, right? The naysayers will say that if oil goes down a lot that the dividend is not sustainable, well I say, if you think oil is going to go down a lot then you should NOT buy any oil stocks, or better yet you should be brave and short the oil stocks. So watch your mail box and when you get the circular in the mail vote NO. My understanding is that if you don't vote then your shares are considered to be a vote in favor, right?

I hold POU with 1/2 of the position covered called to June 2025 at a 14% higher strike. My question is the $12 Special Distribution Return of Capital & $3 Lump Sum dividend that was announced Dec 18/2024 priced into the stock? Another way to ask the question is will the stock price drop if $12 of return of capital occurs & $3 in dividends or should I try to buyback the covered call before it becomes ITM? I have no issues holding the stock longer term and would like to take advantage of the special distribution if possible.

Q: Someone sent me a useful update on PLUG just over a year ago - I would appreciate an update - inc current prospects - as it looks as though it might be making a base etc and I wondered if they had got their financing sorted. On PTK do you know who offered them financing and if they are a credible - and supportive - player.
