Can you please comment on the strengths and weaknesses of TIP - iShares Barclays TIPS Bond Fund (ETF). It seems to be performing well this year so far.
Is it a good substitute for buying and holding bonds directly in a self-managed bond ladder?
Q: Peter, I am considering buying one of these ETF's. HXS is quite small vs XSP but it has had much returns over the past 5 years. I would have thought that the returns of both would have been quite similar as they are designed to track the S&P 500.
Q: Good afternoon,
I can understand that Wisdom Tree would decline after Brexit like other financials, but don't understand why it is being particularly punished (11%+) today. Could you please clarify.
Thank you.
Q: Will Nvidia suffer any adverse effects from this British Exit? I thought you had hinted as much about a week ago in an answer to someone, but can't find that answer! ... It was only a tangential hint that I may have misunderstood. Thanks!
Q: I have 50K US$ and wish to purchase 3 or 4 growth and income stocks on an American exchange. I was thinking of MSFT as one of them. Do you agree? Would you suggest other names. Thank you
Q: Hi folks
Two questions.
I have held both these for some time in my wife's LIRA account. She can not access this for about 12 years, so a long term hold is very possible. Have held these for a couple years. Both are down about 10%, I have held on because I see the ETF as a long term play on our aging population, and ACHN (hopefully you have a little info with this) as a risky but likely takeout target down the road. I have trimmed this one down and made a bit of $ in another account with it, so it isn't as bad as it looks.
Looking back, which is always easy, there are better options, however I am in now and wondering if I should stay the course.
Don't mind volatility, actually kind of drawn to it. Any thoughts?
Excellent job btw, your cheap at twice the price!
Cheers ;)
Q: I did my Brexit Wed. and plan on staying about 50% cash untill after the US election. Would like some ETF's that pay a relatively safe div. Thanks Al
Q: I own Hertz in my US Margin Account and I am down 49%. Down more than 9% on Friday alone.
I am advised of a reverse split ( never good ) combined with a 1 for 5 spinoff of Hertz's Equipment Division . Should I hang on , or should I run.
Come to think of it, I often get ripped off by car rental companies.
Q: Priceline is getting murdered today (down over 11%), because of their exposure to Europe - both in terms of revenues and currency exchange - which are assumed to be negatively impacted by the BREXIT vote. At the same time, it is on a growth path, its PE is really not that high for such a solid company, and I can't help but wonder if the sell-off today is overdone. Do you think this is a good entry point into PCLN?
US stocks:
I am looking to invest 10k in US$ with the following criteria:

Q: Good morning, ok brexit happened and the world is falling apart. I have 50% in cash. Can you recommend 4 or 5 stocks for my watch list. I'm 58 well diversified but have no bonds, golds or us stocks
Q: Hi, Just sent a question....the company is CALM.US.
I did type the ticker on the "Companies Addressed in this question" field. What did I do wrong?
THX,
I am using SHERWIN-WILLIAMS CO as an example. I like to use ROE as one of the main numbers I look at before I buy a stock, is there a point when a high ROE is a concern. SHW has a ROE of 145 ( according to my RBC banking brokerage info) is this too high? At what level do red flags come up and what causes extremely high ROE. What statistics do you look at and could you rank them for their importance in your check list.
