Q: I recently added a few "commodity" stocks and they've recently had very strong runs...Would you be inclined to hold them or take some profits? None of them represent an oversized portion of my portfolio. I'm just thinking after such sizeable gains in a short term...they must be due for a pullback. What macroeconomic indicators would you use to identify a change in outlook?

Q: I keep a small portion of my portfolio for trading opportunities. With volativity back in the market, can you recommend a few stocks that you would 'trade' in this market. I am currently trading cpg and valeant. Any other ideas?

I am zero invested in oil and gas right now.
I have a bit of room in RSP account and thinking of taking one oil stock with a decent dividend for a long term hold. Purchasing right away so today’s prices are in play.
Either Vermillion or White Cap fit I think, thoughts on those or another option would be appreciated.

I note you have listed CVE as a good O&G option lately, first times I recall you doing so. There have been many saying they overpaid for their big purchase and that their debt is too high which if true is usually meaning a non endorsement by 5i. What is the case for this stock now in your opinion and is it not more properly lumped with the big boys like SU or CNQ? Do you prefer it over those two as well?

Q: For energy sector I have these four companies. Sure, I am under water with all, but this is probably irrelevant. All offer good dividend, so I have time to wait. They have some debt too, which I don't really like. Please comment on the prospects for these companies: at this moment can you consider them value or value traps? Or, are they a hold? Are the dividents sustainable?

Q: Yesterday in media was speculation of Suncor looking for Oil Sands acquisitions. Do you see any likely candidates, that would also have limited downside, and leverage to increasing prices if they don't get purchased by Suncor?

Q: With Cdn oil getting crushed and no political leadership to overcome the anti business environment, do you see any upside for either Cenovus or Canadian Natural?

Q: Hello 5i Team,

little bit of a two for one here though all three of these companies in my portfolio are in the same battered sector. Obviously the Canadian natural gas producers are hurting right now due to weak prices, an oversupply, and a lack of pipeline to deliver especially in Alberta but Peyto itself has really bled out over the last 6 months. The dividend is nice but of course was cut and I'm feeling uncertain as to whether it will continue to be sustainable and even if the loss in stock value is very much offsetting it. Do you see any upside here? The strong downward trend momentum is rather discouraging.

Cenovus and Trican are two others that I recently acquired at the higher end of the scale relative to the last month. Since then they've been steadily sliding especially Cenovus and I presume this is due to rising bond yields, higher interest rates, and a lack of sentiment towards the energy sector. Could you please give me your thoughts on them over the short and long term please? Thanks a bunch! Your guidance is very much appreciated.

CVE CEO regarding the Weyburn sale stated “Net proceeds from the Weyburn asset sale, combined with the other three divestitures announced earlier this fall, will position us to retire the entire $3.6 billion bridge facility associated with the ConocoPhillips asset purchase by the end of 2017.”

Additionally Soros Fund Management took a 1.2 million share position on CVE on tuesday?

What are your thoughts?

I am down considerable in my RSP in ENB,SGY, and WCP.
I note you are in favour of a new position in CVE. I will keep ENB but was wondering if a switch out of SGY and WCP to CVE or to buy more of ENB is warranted? I will not need the RSP funds for 3 years or more and it is fairly balanced at the moment.

Q: OIL???? is it time to think about revisiting this slippery slope? I have been pretty much out for several years. Is this a cautious entry point for some beat up names? I know how fast the taps can turn on and off and the fracking effects. Is the current Saudi prince thing in the news a huge long or short term factor to consider and finally would you go large of small cap to start a new position. Personnel note I waited to see your how your new layout would work and liked it so much I renewed for two years Good Job

Q: I recall reading that ConoccoPhillips will be able to start selling their ~200 million shares in Cenovus sometime this November? Is that correct? If yes, do you anticipate this triggering a significant decrease in the share price?

Q: We know that CVE has a ton of debt and that there may not be much life until oil prices firm up.
That being said, they did beat the street's most recent earnings predictions, it's selling well under book, it's been basing for the past few months and the dividend is just shy of 2%

What do you think of CVE as a potential 12 month investment?
