Q: Hi.
Would you please clarify what is meant by a “sell side” analyst? What is the difference to a “buy side” analyst, if that even is a expression?
Are the analysts with, say, Scotia iTrade considered to be “sell side”? Can you provide an example of a “buy side” analysts (if such exist). In what category would you classify 5i’s analysis?

Q: Greetings 5i team,
This question is regarding tax loss selling. I have a major loss on su.to in my Margin account. I want to keep the stock for the long run. My question is is it possible to file tax loss without selling or should i sell and buy back. If so how soon can i buy back?

Q: All of these stocks seem to be favourites and pay good dividends. Am having a hard time differentiating between them as regards to those involved in renewable energy ( I think NPI, BEP and Aqn ) and those involved in transmission only of electricity and natural gas (I think FTS, and EMA). Could you please comment on the differences, if there is any and how you would rank them.

Q: As far as I can determine banks are the safest investment one could have in the equity market. If there is a safer stock then I would appreciate knowing what it is. The banks survived the 2008 crash, now have stricter regulations and if by chance the banks go under then the rest of the market and the economy will be crushed. Banks pay a good dividend for years, currently paying approx 4% and if you look at the growth over the past 10 years, 20 years then most people would be happy. These are thoughts from an income investor with growth as a bonus. For the fixed income portion in a portfolio why not buy the top 4 or 5 banks or even an etf that holds only bank stocks.

Q: Good afternoon, this little food company has really been rocketing up in the last couple of weeks but I see no news since Oct 22. Do you have any idea why ? Could it be that this stock now trades on the OTC or might be getting press in the states? Volume is up 5 fold do you think this could be setting up for a rocket down? Q: Hi team,

What is exactly the meaning of "Capped" for an ETF.

May I suggest a category in your list of questions which would be 'vocabulary" or "meaning of..." for quick reference for unexperienced investors like me. It could avoid repetitive questions. I knew at some point what "capped" meant, but I forgot....
