Q: Please comment on this preferred share issued by RBC. It is one of the new nvcc preferreds. It is currently trading at a premium to its par value at a current yield of 5.18%. Is this preferred a better choice to deal with changing interest rates as compared to previous types of preferred shares? Other than the fact that the bank can convert the preferred to common shares if the bank has financial problems, what are the risks? Thank you

Q: Yesterday in the Globe & Mail Gordon Pape suggested "moving on" from Riocan, into "better" REITS.
I can understand his argument, and it would suit me to do this, if I could find the better REITS.
Which Reits do you consider good for income plus a bit of growth?

Q: hi there,
MRC seems to be on a nice upward trend along with the other Reits. Is there any news here that would be driving these steady increases besides the sector other that the share buy backs.

Q: I have owned these two companies for a couple of years as part of a well diversified portfolio - both geographic and by industry. Financials in the US have been relatively flat for nearly a decade and I am wondering if there is a case to be made for owning US financials when Canadian financials have done better and pay a nice dividend. I am comfortable that these two stocks are near the top of the class so it is not the companies that I question. Would you deem it reasonable to hold only Canadian financials at this time and to invest the US dollars in other areas?
Appreciate your insight.

Q: I notice that the CDNX is in the process of what seems to be a dramatic turnaround since January of this year moving from 468 to its current level of 763. What is the preferred instrument for taking advantage of this index?
Q: Waddell & Reed seems a very solid mutual fund and money management firm that has had ties with Canada's Mackenzie Financial and has generally been portrayed as a prime example of Mid-Western stability. Is their phenomenal yield and modest payout ratio worth braving their current stock price "free-fall"?
Q: What are your thoughts on this new ETF? Global Momentum Factor ETF (VMO)And the momentum strategy employed vs a plain vanilla index as the global portion of one's portfolio?
Q: Forecast if any please

Q: Hi 5i I notice members are asking about renewable energy companies. I would like to add 2 renewable energy companies to my portfolio, at present I have none. I'm a very long term investor, something like till the day I die. Thx for your wise advise, I was starting to believe in the " sell in May and go away " but this year staying with the market has been very good for me thanks to the 5i group. Thx again Gerry
Q: Hi Team,
I am a shareholder of IAE for only a month ,bought it on weakness and feel that investors are impatient about the final testing on the platform and ship coming out of the Polish shipyard in regards to Stella. I feel that this selling is more emotional ,could be profit taking.Should I buy more on weakness or hold on and wait for the final tests to be completed? What are the possibilities of a takeover offer and what would be a fair price for IAE shares?
thank you,have a good day,
Jean C.

Q: Hi Guys,
After reviewing my sector allocation, I noticed that Consumer Cyclical was at 31%. They are all "5I APPROVED" companies (ATD.B,CCL,CGX,GIL,AW.UN,BYD.UN,DOL, DIS and SBUX) and I hold approx. 3.5% in each. How should I handle this?
thanks,
Jim

Q: Peter; I read a Globe article by the Avenue Group regarding the massive amounts of money flow into bond ETF's. Their main point was, if the bond market goes to a " no bid" situation, then the resulting problems with accurately pricing the Etf's could cause havoc if investors tried to exit. Today Larry Berman suggested buying his ZCS short term corp.bond
as a place to sit and wait for a pullback he thinks is coming. I realize that trying to time the market is pointless but first could you comment on the " no bid" scenario and second do you think buying some ZCS would be like a hedge if anything did develop?
Thanks.
Rod
