Q: If you were considering defensive choices in the current climate for a retired client relying on an income portfolio of securities for a large percentage of their income, would you consider VVR? If not, what sort of defensive income-producing diversifier would you prefer?

Q: Hello 5i
One of the advantages a small investor may have is access to buying small companies where Institutional Investors would not be able to buy a meaningful position. Easy to say that Source Rock Royalties is a tiny company at $40 MM.
As they have been operating since 2013 (public since March 2022) with a successful dividend + Growth Model and never a negative cashflow quarter, would you consider this one a decent play for Royalty Income. The Dividend yield is high (9%) with low payout ratio (60%) and cash on the books ...... so it appears the business and income stream are sustainable.
With a quick review of their financials and business model, do you see anything that would be of concern for an investor looking to take up a position to enhance Portfolio income?
I did notice the prior two Q&A.
Thanks

Q: What is your opinion on this bond ETF? Have owned this in an RSP for a very long time on a DRIP plan which has been extremely disappointing. Would you continue holding? Continue with the DRIP?...or just dump it and move to, say, a laddered GIC scheme. Thanks Ron
Q: Would appreciate your assessment of TRI and INTA. These 2 stocks in the professional services sub-sector appear to be accelerating due to AI. Correct me if I am wrong but do you see increasing TAM attributable to improved service to clients and and reduced costs. Would you have high conviction or less so with this idea? How would you rate these or others in the professional services sub-sector.
More generally, are there other industrial sub-sectors where AI is improving client services and reducing costs. Any other names to suggest.

Q: I would like you to explain or direct me to an explanation of how the mechanics of CAD hedged USD ETF'S work.
Thank you, Hugh
Thank you, Hugh
Q: I read your last update (June), and recent questions about this stock, and reviewed the financials. I cannot see any specific reasons for the steady decline. I don't see the reorganization having any material effect, and because of the international diversity I cannot see any Trump stupidity as having major influence. In fact, I would have thought the reduced interest rates would be a positive effect. Obviously, I am missing something that indicates a sell for some, and I am hoping you could shed some light on what that might be. As well, I would appreciate your comments as to future expectations.
Thanks!
Paul

Q: Hello, is this a good entry point for this stock ? It seems to have high multiples using any metric. They seem to have no debt on the books.
Q: What would be your top 4 picks to add to a TFSA for steady growth over the next few years. Happy New Year and thanks for your great service. Steve
Q: Hello, which company would you have a higher conviction for if industry was of no concern for a long term hold ?
Q: I am preparing for the sky to fall in coming weeks if not days and may pivot right out of equities, or at least anything remotely tech/risky. My question: can you recommend any monthly pay bond etfs or similarly vehicles where I can sell at any time and don't have to lock in, even for 30 days, so that I can realize some income from the portfolio? Looking to have my cake and eat it too! Thank you.

Q: I do not recall the rationale for the change in RRSP rules to lift the requirement that RRSPs had to have a certain percentage in Canadian equities. Canadian companies have a hard time raising equity, and this rule change must have caused a lot of money to leave the Canadian stock market for the US. I would support a reinstatement of the rule for any new money. If Trump wants to hit Canada with tariffs there is no reason why Canada should encourage investment in the US.
Q: Hello,
I have been reading up on this fund, and comparing it to other covered funds. This one utilizes a strategy whereby they generate income (currently ~ 11% yield) by writing puts. This fund is currently 75% written puts. My sense is that when this strategy is coupled with a long equity strategy, you still have similar downside (less the premiums you receive via selling the puts), but your upside is capped. Works if markets are not overly volatile and remain range-bound. But I think things could go really wrong quite quickly in a volatile downward trending market. It seems to me that the fund is short volatility, which could cause serious distress in the fund vs writing covered calls.
Have I got this right?
Appreciate your thoughts as always.
