Q: My daughter has the above investments in her regular account. She has now opened a TFSA and plans to contribute regularly. The horizon is long (money not needed for 10-20 years). Her portfolio is not very well balanced. Could you offer advice on 5-8 best stocks (Canadian or available on the NEO exchange) that would be promising investments whilst improving sectorial balance?
Q: I am deciding between these two companies for a 1% position (I will add over time if the company performs well): sector allocation is not a concern for this purchase. I am investing specifically for growth. Would you have a clear preference here?
Thanks so much, and I look forward to your response.

BitMine Immersion Technologies Inc. (BMNR $59.20)
Q: Can I get your updated view and opinion on SBET. I have a small position and down 15% and would like to add more. Already own a good sized position in GLXY which has done very well. I understand the volatility and risks in crypto. Can you comment on this recent news of SBET increasing their share offering and also the plan of tokenizing their stock. Do you see this as positive news and do you see more upside in ETH going forward? Also I think before you mentioned you favor SBET over BMNR, is that still the case today? Thank you!

Global X USD Cash Maximizer Corporate Class ETF (HSUV.U $116.58)
-
Global X 0-3 Month U.S. T-Bill ETF (UBIL.U $50.01)
Q: Hello 5i Team
I purchased UBIL.U (Global X TSX traded ETF holding US Treasury Bills) in my RRSP as a holding vehicle for my 5 % cash allocation. My purchase price is US$50.01 (resulting from ETF commission) per unit.
I understand UBIL.U trades between US$50.00 and ~ US$50.20 based on interest rates on a monthly basis
In December 2024 Global X declared at non-cash distribution of US$0.70807 per unit. The units were consolidated and now my average cost basis is ~US$50.72.
Therefore when I sell the units of UBIL.U in my RRSP I am incurring a capital loss of between US$0.50 and US$0.70 which I cannot recover (or apply against other capital gains) as the units are held in my RRSP.
Questions
1 - Will other US$ Cash ETFS incur the same non-cash distributions?
2- I could in theory purchase US $ Treasury Bills through my broker (RBCDI), however their fixed income product selection is not great. Any other fixed income suggestions.
3 - Are there are any other products which will not incur the non-cash distributions?
Thanks for all the great services that 5i provides

Q: I know 5I is a financial service. But sometimes, one may wish to invest in companies according to his/her values, regardless of the financial data. I remember a Q&A where a member wanted to sell its Amazon shares after it closed its operations in Quebec, but your answer was strictly about the financial outlook. It’s OK, AMZN is a good stock, but Amazon does not have a great reputation as an employer either.
Some sectors might be blacklisted by an investor such as Oil sands, alternative lenders with ultra-high interest rates (GSY) , ‘sin’ stocks (tobacco, gambling), ownership (E. Musk), monopolistic control (NWC in northern Canada), some countries (DRC, Russia, China) and more.
Of course, it’s the investors ‘duty to know and decide what they want to buy. But I was wondering if 5I-Market Data could include some type of ESG rating, even if they are far from perfect. And make it a subject of the Blog from time to time. And identify some web sites for concerned investors.
Sorry, my English is not perfect. Thanks, Denise

Q: Hi.
Do you agree with TD's move on TOU from Buy to Hold? They also downgraded IMO to a sell. With the anticipated increase in demand for Nat Gas, in spite of TOUs low FCF yield, I would think there is runway for them. Any comments on both IMO and TOU?
Carl

Q: CSCO is one of my core and long term holds. Lost money and made money and now after so many years I am sitting with very significant gains.
The question is this: Under the current AI craze and momentum and things changing so rapidly, should one hold and let it run the course or sell it and move it to AI based stocks. (I already have some of your favourites like GOOG and NVDA.)
Where does CSCO fit in the new AI paradigm shift?
Many thanks.

Lam Research Corporation (LRCX $140.35)
-
NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA $185.04)
-
Seagate Technology Holdings PLC (STX $225.01)
-
Western Digital Corporation (WDC $119.93)
Q: NVDA has been kind of left in the dust this year, up "only" 39%. LRCX, though, is up 90%, WDC is up 185% and SEA is up 190%. All good for me since I own all four but I'm wondering why the market seems to have turned away from NVDA. Especially in the last month, SEA and WDC are up 48% and 58% respectively, in the last thirty days.
Q: Tantalus Systems (GRID). Some guests on BNN put a price target on stocks.
Could you put a price target on GRID?
