Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Hi, could you please rate these companies for a riff account. My goal would be dividend, growth and stability in down market. I have money for one company. (Would buying U.S. be beneficial?)
Fell free to add your favourite stock for my goals.
Thanks

Q: Reviewing all your input on this stock, was wondering if you could share your take on the TD summary of analyst ratings (5) where three (3) are suggesting it is a "sell" while two (2) rank it as a "hold", average target price being $33.04 while today it is trading at $35.83!
Am I missing something here. Appreciate all you excellent support.
Ted.

Q: Hello
There seems to be interest in this ETF here and on BNN market call.

The price chart now being at pandemic low price catches my attention

I tried to access manager commentary but it was locked. Are you able to comment on what has driven such a poor price performance and whether the financial environment we are entering in the USA is favourable for this ETF?

We’d all like 9% yield but a waste of time if the price drops more.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Dave

Q: I hold many of the mag 7 and a few other upcoming AI names in my TFSA and feel i am quite exposed in that area. What ETFs would you recommend for diversifying my portfolio to avoid doubling up? Thanks

Q: I hold these ETF's in a RESP account and just wonder if all these ETF are different enough to own? Also would be be good to own XAW in the RESP account. Money is not needed for 10 years.

Thanks

Q: Hi Peter - I've gotten some more info re my question yesterday on the subject of the 'phantom distribution',

TDAM confirmed that the Notional distribution will increase the book value and that the distribution is a capital gain.

To me this means that I must dispose of all the shares in order to realize the capital loss and can only apply it to the 2025 tax year. Is this correct? And since only 50% of capital gains/losses are taxed, then for a USD 10,000 Notional distribution the benefit is really only USD 5,000 that can be applied as a capital loss. Is this correct? And if I was to claim a capital loss, I'd have to wait 30 days before I could repurchase TDB2915. Is this correct?

I should be grateful for the unexpected distribution, but overall it looks more like a 'poor man's' dividend to me.

Many thanks again for your much appreciated views.

Q: Looking at these long term compounders in various sectors. Based on current valuation and future growth, how would you rank these and which ones would you buy now or DCA into over time?

I'm already holding full positions in BKNG, BN, CSU, LMN, half positions in V,MA,WSP, and smaller position in TRI. I would either add to my smaller positions or add new positions in the others.

Are there any other 2-3 long term compounders that you would consider good buys currently?

Thank you!

Q: Looking to invest new funds in SMID CAD. Do not need income - lean to Growth. On a risk/reward ranking, from this list or any others you prefer, please advise where you would focus investments for 3-5 years hold.
Thanks
