Q: It is now clear that money laundering has been occurring at some of GC's casinos in BC. In particular at the River Rock casino. The Director of VIP Guest Relations has had her registration revoked by the BC Lottery Corp. GC is being investigated by the RCMP and it appears that GC could suffer other financial penalties. Should this be a concern and should investors be cautious?

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan, and Team,

Darren Sissons, in a recent BNN "Top Picks" segment wrote an interesting few paragraphs in which he attempted to debunk some common 'opinions': "Telcos, pipelines, consumer staples and consumer discretionary are now inferior investments. (NOT TRUE, in his opinion) For fresh capital, the yields in these sectors are now actually becoming increasingly attractive. The broader issue is these segments have been over-owned since the global financial crisis and the recent underperformance is skewing their longer-term performance. For fresh capital, these segments offer an attractive risk-adjusted total return looking forward, in addition to protection against market corrections.

If you agree with his thesis, what stocks (in particular, from ones that you cover) in telcos, pipelines, consumer staples, and consumer discretionary would be most attractive at this time?

Thanks for your valued insight.

Q: Greetings to the 5i team:
Would you please provide your analysis, including growth outlook and potential risks, for Great Canadian Gaming (GC) vs People (PEO) for a 5 year plus hold in a TFSA? I love the following comment by Martin Braun in Market Masters and I wonder if it applies to either? "There's a lot of cheap optionality embedded in stocks. In other words, you're not paying for this happening, and you're not paying for that happening; you're paying maybe a teeny little bit for a third thing and maybe a little bit more for a fourth thing happening to the stock. If any of those four things were to happen you'd make good money because the market's not really paying for them."

Thanks,

Q: Hi There,
This is a two part question regarding my kids RESP account.
The first question, I hold a full position of REI.UN in this account and just learned that as of November, Riocan has suspended their DRIP program. In light of this and the recent weakness, I am considering selling REI.UN and replacing it with CSH.UN. Is this something you think would be prudent, or should I replace it with something other than CSH.UN? (see second part of question)
If I replace REI.UN with CSH.UN I will still have enough cash to buy a position in two of the following stocks, DOL, NFI, GC, PHO, GSY .
In this account I currently hold BNS, MG, FFH,OTEX & REI.UN with a five plus year time frame.
Thank you for your assistance.
