Q: Columbian Government has proposed a tax reform bill that seeks approval from lawmakers.
Part of the bill asks for 10% tax on oil exports at price over $48/barrel as well as removing the tax deduction for Royalty payments.
Are you able to offer a reasonable opinion on how heavy a financial hit this may have on Parex? If not please just ignore question.

Q: Hi 5i,
What did you think of the quarter for SPB; is the sell-off a good opportunity to add to a position? Is the dividend covered?

Q: What would be your order of preference between the above noted oil and gas companies and why?
Q: I can't figure out why parex (PXT) has dropped over 10% today. Their recent quarterly was excellent, they are buying back shares like crazy, they have several high impact wells coming on stream in H2, and they started giving a very nice dividend. What am I missing?

Q: Income investor… but never happy to see holdings drop in value.
More specifically about oil. It is $88 today. Some are saying could go to $60. Others are saying : “perhaps BUT winter is coming and prices could go higher than $140”.
1. What is 5i’s opinion on oil over the next year?
2. Can many of the energy companies ( like PXD, SU, DVN, KMI, …,) continue to pay the same “ juicy” dividends should oil hit $60 for a prolonged period of time?
Thank you.

Q: I'm considering taking tax losses. Which of these would you consider moving on from or selling and getting back into at a later date.
I'm an income investor with a long term horizon and have apparently have passed the iron gut test.

Q: Why would CNQ be down about $1.00 as of now when it just declared a special $1.50 dividend and higher capital spending (meaning higher production to come)? This market is not logical at all. What's your take?
Q: Saw your response to the question about Suncor's results, where you said everything looked fine. Yet today, a day many of the big oil and gas companies appear to be up, Suncor continues to go down after an 8-9% drop the previous two trading days. After last night's quarterly report I would have expected some recovery in the share price. Is there anything then that would halt the apparent downward spiral in the share price? Or should I take my lumps and sell the shares.
Q: If I am not mistaken, I thought I saw a recent answer where you said we were late in the oil and gas cycle. In the past, I thought you answered questions as being mid-cycle. If this was a baseball game, what inning do you think are we in now?
Thanks
Thanks

Q: Would you endorse a switch from PEY to BIR at this time? Which has greater share price appreciation potential assuming gas prices remain stable to increasing? Would it be worth foregoing PEY's dividend for better outlook with BIR. Thx
