Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I am an 80 year old value investor. In a diversified portfolio in all sectors, covered call ETF's as per above, make up 10% of my portfolio. I am satisfied with that and all but two are up. 30% of holdings are ETF's including the covered calls.
QUESTION:1. Am I holding too many covered call ETF's? They seem to take the stairs up and the elevator down faster than single stocks. 2. Is it supposed that the covered call ETF's will plunge faster than the single stocks in an expected steep correction?
Thank you

Q: Hello 5i,
Is there an exceptional amount of ROC for NXF.B and if so is it meaningfully detrimental to an investment in this. I enjoy the distribution but I do not want it to bite me in the butt when I finally sell. I have nine such cover call ETF's ( HDIV, HHLE, HMAX, HYLD, NXF.B, QMAX, SMAX, UMAX, ZWH.U) out of 48 positions making up 11% of the portfolio of mostly blue chip solid dividend payers. Am I heading for a disaster when I sell in a 5 to 8 year time frame? 79 year old value investor enjoying dividends.

Q: I am considering replacing ENB with NXF.B in my RRSP account. Two questions: (1) what do you think of this change considering the likelihood of increased taxation for O&G producers - i.e. "fair share tax"? (2) Are there tax implications when holding NXF.B in RRSP i.e. will I receive the stated 10% dividend or there will be some reductions due to the fact that this is CDN ETF holding non-CDN stocks?
