Q: SPB seems to be favourite among analysts at TD (All buy rate, Jan 2019) and also Thomson Reuters report writers. You have it as a sell . SPB has a high debt (due to adquisitions). (beta is 1.23 on TSX index). Can you comment on the risk due to a market downturn and also on the fact that management seems to be too focused on growing (at all cost) rather than protecting the co. for a storm in the market. Which one you worried more ?

Q: Thinking of swapping fcr for tcl.a with the potential for capital appreciation as the only criteria.Reasonable?
Q: Hello ... I purchased SGY a couple of years ago at much higher levels and am now thinking of averaging down. I consider Surge to be one of the better names in the small cap oil space (if that's possible) as I feel they have good assets, solid management, manageable debt and a sustainable dividend (provided energy prices don't take a tumble). I also think they are a potential take-over target. I'm looking at a 3+ year hold.

Q: I see you sold WCP in favour of SU. I am down substantially on both VET & WCP. If I am moving the remnants of WCP to SU should I do the same with VET?

Q: I have about $10,000 I would like to get some non-U.S., foreign exposure with. Maybe an ETF or 2, a dividend would be great but not if it takes away all the growth. Would you recommend China, India or Europe? I know it will limit my choices but I would like to purchase it in Canadian dollars. Thank you so much :-)

Q: I've finally decided to look at investing in some US stocks. Would you be able to suggest a couple of US growth stocks that have some stability and growth potential over the next few years? Thanks.
Q: Do you see any hope for OEE after the Q4 '18 results?

Q: Jan 18 article on BNN regarding U.S. Hedge fund shorting Canadian Banks. According to them, 80% of Canadian companies are not generating enough cash to support their businesses - the highest in the world. Further they say that 80% of non financial stocks are cash flow negative which they measure as cash flow from operations minus capital expenditures.
Would 5i please comment on this? Most often I read and interpret what I'm reading as a strong opinion from you that most companies that you cover are doing well.

Q: So this has been the dog of my portfolio for some time. It does pay me to hold but given the balance sheet and the lack of any momentum, is it worth moving on?
Do you have a recommendation for similar with better upside potential and a dividend _ could be smaller but needs to be growing.
Thanks

Q: Destiny Media stock is seems to trending higher (it trades with much greater volume under its US symbol (DSNY) then under its Canadian symbol (DSY). The Company disclosed during it Fiscal Q1 investor call that they signed a major multi-year renewal deal for its Play MPE SaaS software with Universal Music with included a 14% increase on monthly recurring fees. Currently Universal labels accounts for about 40% of DSY's revenues. Management also stated on the investor call that the increase in costs will be outpaced by increase in revenues and that in the immediate future profitability will increase. It seems like a lot positives for small Company going forward. What is 5i thoughts on DSY as speculative type investment at this point?
Q: HI,

Q: Regarding Dawn's question, "A great-grandparent has sent us $5000 for our 13 year old, as a small pre-inheritance gift. We want to using this as an investment learning tool, and currently plan to deposit it in my husband's TFSA (he currently has room in it) and will track it's performance separately."
Your suggestion of the RESP was spot on, but if the RESP is full and she wants to teach him about investing she could open an in trust Waterhouse account. This would save her husbands TFSA room. Teach a lesson and save on taxes. Get documents to show CRA that the money was a gift and the money will be taxed differently in the 13 year olds name.

For people who invest in a US market index ETF, are there significant differences between IVV, VOO and SPY ?
Are there any other similar US market index ETFs?
Thank you.

Q: I have a question about ECN.
I have been patiently holding for over a year now after buying around 4.30. I am quite frustrated with price action and am wondering what it will take to see ECN over 4.30 (if ever) and how realistic it is to believe that there will be a catalyst that moves this stock to above $4 and perhaps closer to $5.
Thank you,
Sam
