Q: TFSA top up for 2023, Hold BNS and VE.ca etf in the account. Bet on a stronger europe recovery or tried and true CAD bank. Yes yes apples and oranges etc. But what is your guess apples or oranges for the recovery....fusion of income and balanced portfolio follower. 3-5 yr hold.

I really appreciated and learnt a lot from the various indices/metrics that you used in your market update emails, especially circling back in the most recent one to update the trends. Looking at the various indexes you explored last year, it made me wonder if there was an index or metric that tracked digital advertising to look at trends through time (e.g., have things bottomed and more are spending on digital advertising). As a holder of companies like Google, Digital Turbine, and The Trading Desk, I am interested to know if there is an index/metric out there to follow trends in digital advertising. If there is, could you use it to suggest what the general status of digital advertising is and how it might help inform adding to positions of GOOG, APPS, TTD, and others (if you have higher conviction names to suggest).

Q: I have been gifted this bond ETF in a margin account. I know little about bonds, and wondered if I should keep this ETF or if there is another bond ETF that you would recommend in this challenging economic climate? Thanks for all your guidance during these unprecedented times.

Q: Happy 2023 after learning the hard way in 2022 that growth is not always the best rewarded investments. Anyway this shall pass too. My question is about the impact from the interest raise that may potentially slow down buying new cars. It seems to me that the car parts retailers such as Carparts.com that sells “aftermarket auto parts and accessories” may be a good bet for 2023.

Most people in the U.S. simply don’t have a reason to spend money on a new car during the current, uncertain macro environment. Consequently, they will repair their current vehicles if they have problems.

What do you think of my theory? Are there any public Canadian company doing the same as PRTS? Please be free to suggest any other way to play the theme and place your suggestions in your preferred order and your rational.

Q: Happy New Year to the 5i Team. I enjoyed Lightspeed on its ascent in my TFSA, and suffered buying back too early. I believe, supported by some analysts, that it has a future. Should I take my lumps, sell LSPD and invest the proceeds to increase my position in BN to 4%, or continue to hold LSPD. Which stock does 5i feel will generate the best overall return over the next 5 years?

Q: I am looking to add some bond exposure. I had a look at TLT and XHY.

Here is my own personal view on the economy:

- Interest rates could eventually flatline or even fall later in 2023.

- The economy has a somewhat elevated risk of going into a recession.

- The interest rate hikes have a risk of causing "something to break", possibly triggering a black swan event.

Under the above scenarios I am guessing XHY is not a good option considering the individual ratings of the bonds within this ETF, correct?

I don't necessarily want to invest in preparation for a black swan event that may or may not happen, however I want to prepare a bit for that possibility. If that were to happen I would guess that investors would tend to migrate towards the USD. Would that be beneficial for TLT?

Are there better options?

Q: Happy New Year to all at 5i!!!!! I have both of these ETFs in an unregistered account. I have held them for a while. XWD seems to be out performing XEF. I am tidying up my portfolio and am contemplating conglomerating XEF with XWD, and I would welcome your thoughts on this move.

Q: BEPC is down 18.54% and BIPC is down only 7.73% over the past year. This is quite a difference given that they are both utilities. Can you tell me the difference between them in terms of what they invest in, safety, and expected growth? If you were to add to one, which one would it be, if any?

Q: My question about Perseus Mining is why the stocks is growing so slow. We have gold consistently going up, productions is increasing, net income growing, good balance sheet (I believe) and started to pay a dividend to shareholders (I believe in the last 2 years). Will Perseus continue to grow and is the management is strong. Also, will gold price continue to rise with all the chaos in the world. Thank you. Q: I have 6000 shares bought around $23.00 of tpz. Div. is $1.20 a year. Key. recently bought major purchase from Plains and upgraded to buy. Dividend is $1.92 a year. Your opinion of both companies please. At current prices would you sell tpz and buy key.?

Q: We have been keeping in cash the proceed of the sale of a condo. what would you suggest for a conservative growth ETF in canadian currency. That would represent 10% of our equities holdings. Looking for more growth than yield, as this would be in a non registered account. We would like something all in one, as I do not want to add more names to the list of equities we have.
