Q: Hi there,

I am looking to add a company in transportation to my portfolio. On all metrics TFII seems cheaper on a valuation basis than the others. Any reasons you would prefer my other options and why?

I can identify with Neil, who wrote about buying bonds at this time and finds them going down and also looking for an alternative. I have no bond allocation, either, and a couple of months ago bough BSV:US, just putting my toe in to test it. Like Neil, I am also down a little, even after the payouts.
So, I have been wondering whether it would be a reasonable strategy to wait this period out. Would it make sense, for instance, to buy something like FLOT in the US in order to do this? If so, is there anything similar in Canada, as well?

Q: Greetings 5i,

Tahoe Resources, which I hold in 3/4 position costs @ $6.90. Im down about 15% after a small run recently and todays pullback on negative news. I have been in this expecting a positive announcement regarding re-opening Escobal and today it was announced that there will be layoffs. The company has also today, after market close and in contrast to the news earlier, announced record gold production. Perhaps some gamesmanship by the company on both announcements/developments which I guess I can appreciate given the strange situation with Escobal.

Anyhow, what is the current 5i take regarding
1. the company in general and its future prospects
2. the Escobal situation and likelihood of re-opening
3. how to play the position (add/sell/hold)

I am quite comfortable holding providing most of the bad news is baked in already. My timeline is 2-3 years.

Q: Moving to stage 3 on their collestoral drug that is supposed to be better than anything on the market. Small market cap, but success could be around the corner. Please give your opinion of the company and your thoughts on a trade from sleepy GUD. Thank you 5i.

Q: I am concerned about rising interest rates and the recent performance of utility stocks. Should I sell my Fortis and BEP shares and add to my position in SLF ? Is it possible that the affects of rising rates are already priced into these utility stocks ?

Q: I'm thinking about increasing my US exposure and buying VOO in my RRSP. I don't need the money for at least 10 years...
When to buy is always a bit perplexing...with the US markets at all time highs one would think that this is not a great time to be buying and it might be smarter to wait for an inevitable correction.
But at the same time, with the tax cuts that have recently gone through down south, as well as the overall improvement in the business environment, I can't see how that isn't going to drive the markets even higher.
Thoughts?
