Q: Hello 5i, I hold Spartan with a cost of 7.54 per share and was thinking of selling for the tax loss(maybe). What is the last day that I could sell my Spartan shares before they are converted to Vermilion shares. Also I am thinking of letting the shares convert as I like Vermilion as a company. What would be your view on this. Thanks

Q: I recently sold my Spartan shares for $6.77 - as of yesterday the price was down to $6.51 and I am looking at repurchasing.
in your opinion, should I purchase Vermilion or stay with Spartan (is there an advantage to be found here)?
It is my understanding that owners of Spartan receive .15 of a Vermilion share if the deal goes through!

Q: In a reply to Aubrey on Tuesday you recommended crystallizing a loss in SPE and buying VET for the tax benefit. I hold SPE shares at a cost of $9.03, but I totally fail to see any tax benefit in selling SPE and buying VET. Why not just wait for the share conversion a 0.1476 per SPE share? Please explain the tax benefit of selling SPE at a loss.

Q: Hi Guys,

What do you think about Spartans earnings and prospects. There is so much commentary about how this company has a great balance sheet, and the founders have made, and sold companies for large profits, and is a must own name in the energy space. Well.. I have owned for 3-4 years and am underwater. New reports have indicated that they have pulled out of a conference next month (speculation that there are in talks with other parties now to merge, and/or be bought). Eric N, who seems extremely knowledgeable to the energy markets, thinks it is a great play, and may think news/takeout is in store. What do you guys think!

Q: Happy new years to you guys at 5iresearch!!! I hold positions in all of these and they have been dogs for about a year now. I am a fairly long term investor and I am wondering when I am going to see some up side to these as the oil sector seems to be recovering. Or would you suggest to let them go? Thanks for your time

Q: Hi there,

Spartan is sitting about $1.80 above it's 52 week low. WCP is just $.20 or so above its 52 week low and pays a 3%+ dividend. Can you offer an opinion on why Spartan has had a greater bounce (WCP didn't decline as much?). Also, if someone wants to own one of the two which would you pick today and why?

Thanks!

Q: Hi Five Eye (financial) intelligence service
After being almost totally out of energy, I am thinking of getting back and looking for companies with torc to the upside.
Would you please compare TCW and TDG.
Also which would you prefer, PGF or BIR
Also a comment on SPE would be appreciated.
There are at least questions here and five companies. Please deduct 3 or 5 credits.
Gord
