Q: Hi, My nephew was given some money (quantity unknown but probably less than 10k) and he wants to invest in stocks. I don't believe that he wants to start a trading account. So, I imagine that something at his Bank or Credit Union would be the most appropriate. Does this restrict him to mutual funds and if so please provide me with 3 or 4 that will get him on the road to investing.
Many Thanks Gord

Q: Hello,
I have Mawer Balanced Fund fund and Mawer Global Small Cap funds in my RRIF and RLIF to provide some diversification to the individual stocks that I also have. I am happy enough with these 2 funds, and woud like to add Mower Global Balanced Fund, to provide some further foreign diversification , but I do not wish to sell any thing right now to free up the cash, so I am considering
replacing the Balanced fund with the Global Balanced Fund. This might help my foreign diversification problem, but I am wondering if there is a disadvantage to making this swap that I cannot see. the resrt of my portolio is canadian and us stock and fixed income. Please let me know if you think that this is worth doing at this time.
Thank you

Q: In my RRSP, I follow your Balanced Equity portfolio. I would like to add more US exposure, and for now, intend to do so buy selling some of my Balanced Equity portfolio holdings and purchasing either VIG or VGG. Of these, which should I sell to do so:

ATZ, AEM, ATD.B, BAD, BYD, CCL.B, CAE, ENB, GIL, GC, GUD, MG, NFI, PKI, SLF, TFII, WSP

Please disregard sector, geographical, and asset class allocation considerations in your answer. Thank you.

Q: Luckily I have SHOP in my Roth IRA and need to dramatically trim.
I am currently transitioning into retirement within 6 months and want to set the Roth up as a consistent 5 to 7% income yield. I am looking at VIG and NOBL although they maybe higher risk. Would you please offer some other lower risk alternatives?

Regards,

Steve

Q: In the short term, what are the biggest risks? COVID risks, an increase in cases to restrict SMB transactions; Offering price at $37.30, can the price cross the secondary offering price without an increase in selling volume; August quarterly report, that reflects the SMB reduced transactions due to shut in businesses; or the price ceiling at $35.00, that the price can’t get across?

Q: I'm thinking about harvesting tax losses on both NFI and CAE. For NFI I would probably wait until after I receive the dividend payable to holders of record at close of business on June 30th. In regards to CAE I think we are seeing a second wave of COVID-19 building so air travel rebound may be delayed or muted. I know you like CAE but with Trump (and fellow travellers) in charge there is just not enough energy to really confront the virus so the airlines stay empty.
I have yet to rebuy any companies stock once sold. Probably should put the money towards gold, bumping up my 5% weighting a bit.
Any thoughts or concerns?
Thanks,
Jim

Q: Considering the large amounts of reserves the Canadian banks have had to put aside and the possible hit they may take in the next quarter,do you think the current stock prices are a good buy or are they overpriced ? Should a person wait for a better time to enter?

Q: I would be interested in a REIT or an ETF which deals primarily with storage units and/or warehouses. Is there such a thing? Either in Canada or the US..

Thanks as always. You provide such a valuable service to independent investors like me.

Q: Hello - I have some capital that i am looking to deploy and wondering if now is a good time or should i hold on to it.... in anticipation of another reset with news of a second wave, etc.

Also what are your top 10 -15 names right now regardless of portfolio balancing needs - open to American or CAD names - preferably limited small caps.

Lastly, i am kicking myself for not buying SHOP on the pullback.. is it still a buy right now in your opinion? or wait...

thanks so much.
