Q: We have a few blue-chip, all well underwater, reset preferreds. I'm ok with that for these reasons. One is no need to sell for some time. Two is the dividends are much better than GIC income, which is my comparable for our preferreds. Three is my anticipation that these (more tax-efficient) dividends will still much better (than GIC interest) even if rates drop even further if they don't get recalled, ie because the dividend amounts over the next five years will all be a function of the original $25 share value. Q1: Is that anticipation correct? Q2: I'm still fuzzy on roughly how the market price will compare with what it is today (under a no-recall scenario) if the 5-year anniversary is tomorrow or, put another way, will our market price should we need to sell probably still be underwater until interest rates start back up? Thank you!

Q: Hi, Another question on SYZ trading on Thursday. Stock sold off in the morning and a large block of 291,000 shares changed hands at 11.44 AM at $10.75, causing the daily volume to spike. Would you know the brokers/buyer/seller institution, for this block and if this trade is relevant to compensation news and share price drop ? Thanks

Q: Yesterday I asked for a recommendation for US fixed income and you suggested tlt. I have to say that I don’t have a good understanding of fixed income. So I was wondering if you could tell me why this particular etf is your choice in this environment? I suppose I am asking for a course on fixed income, a large request. So, if there is some resource you could direct me to, that would be fine.
Thanks

Q: With the recent run up in EIF's share price, I've made a solid profit.
I'm now considering selling either half or all of my EIF shares and purchasing partial positions in both MX and NTR. I feel the latter two companies currently represent good value and could be considered "safer" than EIF. I have a 3-5 year time horizon.
Kindly provide your opinion

Q: Can you please help me understand why Blackline is valued at 2.5 times QST when QST seems to have way better metrics ( profit, gross margin)? While QST's revenue is not growing as fast, one can argue that QST only chooses to sell prodcutt aht it can sell/rent where there is a profit etc. QST's management is probably a least as good as BLN. Do you think there is a discount because the CEO of QST is a woman? Maybe it is just investor relations, lack of private placement of QST shares? Or fear of regulations or lack thereof hurting QST. Anyone who follows the climate change debate would see methane reduction as one of the the big news story of the past year.

Q: when I put these three on a chart together (Thompson-Reuters feed on webbroker), for a specified period, hxs shows a much greater return than zsp which shows a much greater return than xsp. Five year chart 93%, 77%, and 45% respectively. This charting service does not show total return so some of the difference between hxs and zsp will be the dividend (included in hxs but not zsp). Some of the difference can be explained by hedging of the currency on xsp but not on hxs or zsp. Given the difference in five year returns there must be something else. Suggestions?

Q: I am thinking to add either SQ or LSPD for a 3-5 years holding in my TFSA account. Which one would you recommend? SQ is quite "expensive". Does LSPD still consider "expensive" with their recent drop in share price?

Thanks.

Q: A gem of an answer to Brad's excellent question on Gold on September 25th.

Your usual suspects made the list with FNV/AEM pairing!

What would be your favourite pair in the small/mid cap Gold sector. (Low or no debt, Good growth potential, stand to benefit from the price increase in Gold, good momentum etc.,
Up to 10% means 10,000 per 100,000 dollars, 20 k per 200 k and such, no? Will need a small Gold portfolio with mixture of Large/mid and small caps, or just stick to large players like FNV,AEM,KL,NGT?
