Q: I read somewhere that if you had just maxed out your TFSA contribution each year with an S&P 500 ETF, such as ZSP, then you would have well over $200K in your account by now.
Is there a website where you can input a security on a given date, and it will show you the value of that security today as if you had bought it on that given date?
Thanks,
Robert

Q: HI,
What is a good time to sell these units/ETFs? To lock in the distribution of that month's interest? I am looking at taking some cash off these and be ready to deploy the capital. Not in a rush. But want to be prepared.

Q: Good morning,
Happy New Year to the team !
This question is on structured notes (maturity monitored barrier ??) for an 89 yr old.
My 89 yr old aunt, who is in ill health, with a substantial, relatively well-balanced portfolio, (26% in Canadian banks), she reinvests dividends. Her advisor is suggesting investing in a 7-year auto callable note securities - maturity monitored barrier - linked to the Solactive Canada Bank 40 AR index. His reasoning: for portfolio diversification.
Due to her age, and the complexity of the investment (i.e. hard to understand all the nuances/outcomes) I am uncomfortable in agreeing with his suggestion.
Would you recommend such an investment to an 89-year-old in ill health, who's pension covers all her expenses?
Can you give your comments on structured notes.
Deduct the number of points you think is necessary.
Kind Regards,
Élaine

Q: What is your opinion on Canadian Premium Sand?
Q: Hello,
I am wondering about the merit of purchasing NBLY shares prior to the deal close in order to acquire the Contingent Value Rights (CVR). My thinking is that this would require a short term commitment of capital that could potentially yield a payout in 2026. How likely is it that the EBITDA Target of $128M will be met? If one were to proceed with this strategy when would the shares need to be purchased?
Thank-you

Q: I own CSU at a 7.25% weight and also TOI and LMN around 5%. All have quite nice returns but do you feel CSU profitability could slow enough from the law of large numbers to trim a bit and reallocate to the offsprings? Thanks!
Q: HI Guys
A general question about regulatory requirements, but maybe using TCN as an example as it is now in play....... When a company like Blackstone makes a offer for a company like TCN, once the offer is in place, is the acquirer (Blackstone) permitted to continue to buy stock offered in the market up to 100% even before the vote?
Just seems there is a lot of selling and buying and wondering that would be smart of Blackstone.
Thanks
Stuart

Q: I own both BCE { up 2.37% in 7 years of ownership not including dividends } and T { up 15% in 7 years of ownership not including dividends } and am going to sell at least one. { Neither have been particularly exciting } .... I'm inclined to keep Telus but the current problems with TIXT are making me hesitate. Just how much do you think TIXT is going to effect Telus's earnings going forward ? And if it were " you " and you had to sell one which would it be ?
Q: GILD is down 10% after its phase 3 trial of Trodelvy in a lung cancer trial failed to meet its primary end-point. Is this just "noise" or a reason for a long-term shareholder to sell?
Q: Hi 5i, I've held both Fortis and BIP.UN in a registered account for just over five years. I am thinking of selling Fortis and reinvesting the funds into a larger BIP position. When I look at the Fortis return of approximately 7% and dividend yield in comparison with BIP return and yield, BIP appears to win. I like the fact that BIP's business is broader and more global. My current Brookfield family holdings are about 11% of equity holdings so I realize that this move would increase my exposure to Brookfield to about 15%. I know you can't comments on position sizing but would appreciate your thoughts on making such a move. I know Fortis has an exemplary track record in increasing dividends but maybe it's time. Thanks for your service!

Q: Dear 5i,
I own CSU (10%), LMN (2.5%) and SHOP (4%) in my TFSA.Is it a good idea for me to increase LMN to 5% and SHOP to 6% to increase weight in the technical sector? Is it better to start a new position(s) such as KXS, DSG, or TOI? This is a small diversified TFSA, and protecting the portfolio with some growth is the main goal.
Thank you.

Q: Hi 5i Research, thanks for the great work. I'm not sure if this question is reasonable for 5i.
I am semi-retired and have been looking for resources (articles, books, people) to help me plan an effective retirement withdrawal or decumulation plan.
My general goal is to determine how to effectively plan OAS, CPP, RIFF, cash portfolio and TFSA to minimize tax while balancing the fact no one knows how long my spouse and I will live.
I was wondering if you have any suggestions of resources I could look into?
It seems that with all the boomers out there, there would be resources available and I am probably not looking in the right places.
