Q: Feel free not to publish if I’m mistaken, but I would want to caution Keith (Dec 29) who said he might contribute his Nutrien shares to his registered account and would realize a capital loss in doing so. I do not believe that one can claim any capital loss when the disposition results from a contribution to one’s RRSP or TFSA. He would need to sell the shares in his non-reg’d account (and realize the loss) and then contribute the money if he chose, but should not then repurchase the NTR shares until 30 days has passed.

Q: Hi gang,
On Dec. 22, chief financial officer Jonathan Pollack sold 500,000 shares at a price per share of $20.6904. Proceeds from this sale totaled over $10-million, not including commission charges.
Do you still like AT? And is there any reason for today's decline?

Q: Two questions however no need to answer until new year but first, before I forget, where do I find current year information on ROC for this ETF? I have checked i-share web site, fund prospectus , fact sheet but cannot find the info. Seems I only learn about the current ROC payout in the following year when I receive the tax statements from TD Direct Investing. Finally, where is XTR best held by a retiree with a DB pension: TFSA or non-registered account?

Q: I know that you rate AQN highly, but why has this stock underperformed the others by like night and day in the last year. What is it that has held this stock back?. This has been a hot market for these stocks here in Canada and the USA.

Q: I own full positions (5%) in GOOG and AMZN.
Would you sell either or both to buy SHOP?
I'm not a huge fan of partial positions but would consider turning two into three if you recommended.
If the answer is both, what would the other full position be?

Q: I am still very curious about QBTC.U and how exactly they invest capital. I haven’t been able to find out much about it. Is BITCOIN the only asset the fund has? Do they trade bitcoin to gain value or is the value directly tied to the price of bitcoin? If they are holding bitcoin as a static asset, why would the value of the fund drop when they issue new shares if that new capital goes directly into additional bitcoin coins?

Q: The TSX total return is now positive for the year. I would like to better understand whether the market breadth for the index is quite narrow, and whether the TSX returns are based on exceptional performance for a few stocks only, such as Shopify.

Are you aware of any site which provides details about how each stock has contributed to the overall return of indexes, such as the TSX? I would like to understand how many (and which) stocks are up, and how many are down, over the last year.

I understand that portfolio choices are personal. For an income investor, what would you recommend as a relatively safe percentage of covered call ETFs to hold? I currently have 20% in diversified covered call ETFs. Is it too much?

Q: You put forward these two stocks as good growth options but I note the reco was when these stocks were 25/50% lower price than current. Is XBC still a buy at $8+ and LSPD at $87+ given the run up over 2020?
