Q: A lot of research and writing has addressed the reality that it is *very* hard for an active fund manager/stock picker to beat the indices on an after-fee basis.

But what about the bond market? Does 5i know of a body of research/evidence that explores whether or not over time, an active bond trader/manager could beat a passive bond index fund such as XBB/VAB/ZAG? Should I go passive or active with my fixed income allocation? Which actively managed fixed income ETFs do you like, if any?

Thank you.

Q: Regarding the recent earnings report for this company you had mentioned competition as being part of the reason the stock price responded so negatively. My impression was that NWC had a competitive advantage, and was a somewhat "moat-like" stock. Would this be a false assumption? Are there any concerns here that would suggest a dividend growth investor should sell and look elsewhere?

Q: I have held Loblaws for ten plus years and really liked the Shoppers acquisition. With the grocery business low margins and increased competition, would it make sense to move to a more pure play global pharmacy company like Walgreens to play the aging demographics?

Q: Hello,
I own ATA and AIF in my RRIF account, both of them suffering a small loss. I would like to replace one or both of them with ECN. What is your thought? I usually like to hold stocks for at least 3 years. Thank you very much.

Q: Hello Peter, Ryan, and Team

I need to raise some cash and would like to know how you would rank these stocks from "sell first" to "sell last":

BLX 1.07%
BNS 1.9%
KXS 1.35%
NFI 0.81%
PBH 1.7%
SIS 2.22%
SYZ 0.94%
TFII 0.58%

I am underwater on all of these. The number following each symbol is the stock's weighting.

Thanks for your assistance.

Q: I have been considering replicating the Income Portfolio but I am skeptical about including TCL.A and NFI. Would you have any other suggestions for this portfolio other than these two stocks? Thanks, Bill

Q: To add to what Steven comment today on the Company. I respect M. Goodman view on the long term goals of the company. His analogy for is "grandchildren" and stockholders would make sense if at the very least a dividend would be paid for waiting.
This would a small way to compensate to the shareholders while we are supporting the company.

Q: My portfolio is light in consumer non-cyclicals. Last week I was considering the purchase of NWC for dividend in my non registered account. With the recent earnings release and drop in price is this a good entry point or should I move on?

Would PBH be a better choice? Or is there a better non-financial dividend payer to add to my portfolio?

Thank you

Stephen

Q: Hi,
I already own some MA but I want to add more exposure to this sector. Which of these companies would you suggest for a long term hold with minimal volatility? (I'm not sure why why my TD webroker trading platform lumps CRM into the same category as the others but it does?)
Is there a credit card ETF you like?
Also, are there any equivalent Canadian stocks?

Q: I hold the following technology companies for a 31.66% weighting in my portfolio. I need to reduce this to a maximum weighting of 20%. Current individual weights are; CSU 4.88%, GOOGL 4.94%, AAPL 4.8%,GIB.A 3.2%, SHOP 2.57%, PHO 2.56%,MU 3.27%, NVDA 3.22%, KXS 2.21%.
