Q: Hello 5i,

Can you explain where money flows too during risk-off periods such as 2007-2009 and 2022. With the risk of no declines in the Fed rate this year what would the 2025 scenario look like for equities? Other than shorts, are there sectors that can flourish in a 2007-2009 and 2022 scenario?

At which point is it favourable to look at short-term and 5-10 year Treasuries?

Thank you for your service.

Q: Could you provide me with a few a few names that you feel will benefit from the build up of Data Centers to support AI and would Comfort Systems be on that list? Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter…would you be buying safe jurisdiction gold miners now? The price of the metal, to my layman’s eye, is acting a little more bipolar now. Last Thursday or Friday all my stocks except for TD, AEM, WGX and GOT were down suggesting a level of panic. Today the golds are down suggesting fear of inflation ticking up triggering higher interest rates. Thinking of selling my WGX to buy AGI because it seems a better miner. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

Q: HI, I own several CDN Utilities, AQN, SOBO, PPL, BEPC, BIPC, EMA, ENB, FTS, TRP. Trying to reduce # of CDN Utilities I own. I am thinking of selling AQN, SOBO, BEPC, and BIPC. What is your opinion of selling these and adding PPL, and EMA. What is your opinion on CDN Utility ETF instead. Can you suggest CDN Util ETF for a reasonable return and potential for growth. Welcome if you have any other suggestion. Thanks

Q: So I’m sitting here day dreaming about SOBO. I understand Keystone XL is now their “ asset “ and wondering about possible scenarios under Trump. If he again OK’s it , would the stock move and in what direction, will it get built, is it still needed , would it be doable for this size company , etc ? Needing to add to my list of high dividend stocks, SOBO interests me and wonder what this sizeable project would have on the stock. Thanks.Derek

Q: Dear 5i team.

Ref. my Q of Nov 4,24 re: Long bonds.
As a followup, at the time, the US 10 yr was 4.3%. It appears to now have broken the 5% mark, and possibly heading higher. I've read in the past to keep an eye on the 10yr bond as a "canary in the coal mine" scenerio.
Can you update your views on this please, with more commentary re: the elasticity of the 10 yr and how this could impact equity/bond markets? Any possible moves DIY investors should be considering as a result of your commentary?

Many thanks for your help understanding this relationship.

Q: Can I have your thoughts in putting some TFSA money into MKP, for a couple years, thinking it might be a place to invest while the world figures out where things are going. It pays good dividends, and lower interest rates, with increased construction, should provide some stability. Or, please suggest an alternative idea. Thank you

Q: Good morning,
I currently own HXS and HXT in most of my RESP/TFSA/RRIF and NON - REGISTERED accounts.
In completing an annual performance review of my family portfolio, I noticed that the difference in calendar year performance between HXS and HXS.U is quite significant. In fact for 2024 the calendar year performance of HXS was 35.04% while the calendar year performance of the HXS.U was 24.48%.
I assume that most of the difference can be attributed to the difference between the Can $ and US $.

Q1. If one believes that the CDN$ will remain depressed compared to the US$ for the foreseeable future, which version of these Global X ETFs, do you recommend holding in RESP/TFSA/RRIF accounts where taxes are not an issue.

Q2. Which type of accounts (RESP/RRIF/TFSA/Non-Registered) stand to benefit the most from holding these Total Return ETFs and in what order?

Thank you and I'll await your response.

Q: Dear 5i team.

Since my Q on SPB 6/24, a few key things have changed.

1) can you discuss the key Corp.changes (cut to divi being the most significant) and possible impact to their balance sheet?

2) Has anything changed with regards to Brookfield ownership?

3) What is your ouotlook for the SP given answers above. Looking at the 1 yr chart, it's gone from 10 to 6 so a 50% fib. retracement implies a move back to 8. (That's my back of the napkin assesment.)

I'd like to bring this to a full position, but wanted your commentry first.

Many thanks for your help.

Q: We have ~$8000 in cash in a TFSA currently holding 5 securities (ATD, BCE, CP, GOOG, TECKa; [the portfolio is otherwise well-diversified with ~20 other securities held within RSP/non-registered accounts]), and would like to add to one or two of the positions. Which one or two would you recommend to add to these existing holdings (position size is not an issue), and why?
