Q: Lately I've noticed a lot of people on Fintwit commenting about the market switching from growth to value. A lot of them seem to be bullish on IWN. I already own IWO, and have enough cash to also buy IWN. If we are moving from growth to value, would IWN outperform IWO? Is there a big difference between them?

Looking to add BIP.U in my RRSP for a long term hold. I’m researching the Company and looking at the distribution of BIPC in March. I just want to make sure trust I understand the transaction because the share prices are quite different right now. The main goal was to reach a new investor base by distributing a Canadian Corp that is eligible to the dividend tax credit? The Companies are economically identical and it was treated similar to a share split. Does that mean that the market cap immediately before and after the distribution should be the same? The difference is share price now is due to more investors wanting the Corporation instead of the LP? Difference should narrow over time with BIPC coming down or BIP.U going up?

I was called out of ITP as I didn't expect such a good earnings report. Was thinking of up grading from ITP to CCL. I noticed CCL is in the balanced portfolio therefore is now a good time to buy or are these both overbought and I should wait for a pull back.

Q: This morning I learned that Rogers is in the process of acquiring Shaw. I am not sure what this means as the main reason I purchased SJR.B is for their monthly dividend. In your opinion once Rogers acquires Shaw does this mean that Shaw dividend will disappear and is there any point to me holding onto the stock?

Q: I have recently transferred my RSP as cash to a LIRA account in another institution. This is a substantial number waiting for investing. In less than 2 years I will need to start transferring to RIF.
I have a few questions
1. What is a period of time you recommend to spread the purchasing of investments.
2. In the meantime, I would like to park cash buying a short-term ETF. Should I get one such an ETF or more to reduce the risk? Which ETF or RTFs would you recommend: ZCS, XSB, VSB, or other?
3. I am looking to have a 50/50 mixture of growth and income. Can you list several stocks, bonds, ETF etc. you would recommend to purchase at this time?

Q: XBC is dropping again today. How low do you think it might go before levelling off. At what price might one start a position if you think this is a reasonable thing to do?

Q: As time starts to approach the deadline put on enbridges line 5 I'm starting to get a little nervous as to the outcome of shutting down the line. How much of the price of the stock is already baked into the possibility of the line being shut down?

Q: Hi Peter...If you could put on your CRA hat for a minute. I made a metal error this past summer and sold my WSP shares held in a margin account triggering a sizeable capital gain. The same day I rebought the shares. Scotia iTrade has now sent me their tax form but their numbers did not match mine. In essence Scotia raised the adjusted cost base of the shares up by including the new shares with the original shares. It is like I purchased the shares first (raising the ACB) and then sold a portion of the holding. Naturally I am tempted to go with Scotia's numbers because it reduces the tax burden. Do you have any thoughts?
As an aside it would seem one could always raise the ACB by buying shares on margin and then selling the holding after let's say 30 days. (We have to renovate the house in about a year so I will need to sell stocks to raise cash. All stock positions are currently positive thanks in no small measure to you, Ryan and the 5i team). The risk is the share price tanks after I have increased our position and one ends up with a loss instead of a profit. However you have advised us that in regards to rebuying shares after claiming a capital loss that generally the share price doesn't move much over 30 days.
Any thoughts you have would be appreciated,

Q: Good morning, would you be able to comment on NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, do you see it as a stock worth picking up, and if you do, at what entry point would you yourself feel comfortable going in? I have been waiting for it to go lower but it seems to have a good bit of strength in the .90-$1.00 range. I was hoping it would dip into the .70s but its not looking like that will happen again soon. Thank you!!

Q: This is a comment to your answer to Steven regarding the mentioned preferred share.
Present dividends is 6.75% minimum of 5.25%
The portfolio has a NAV of $ 19.98 which means that it can withstand about 50% drop of the portfolio before it affects the value of the preferred shares.
You have the option of redeeming your shares at $ 10 on December 2025. that compared to most regular preferred that the option is with the company not the holder.
It has performed much better than many perpetual preferred, that some of them lost half of their value even with interest rates going down.

Could you please explain how this is riskier than the perpetual preferred,

Q: CRWD reports after market tomorrow. I hold it in my U$ account. Down 7%, probably paid too much for it. Buying US market is not my forte. In U$ account I hold CRWD, CAE, TIXT, in C$ account VGG and VFV. I have a balanced portfolio with a bit overweight tech.
I am considering selling CRWD on news and looking elsewhere for better opportunities. Would like your opinion . Could I have two or three of your top picks for non Canadian securities.
