Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I have a GIC maturing shortly in my RIF. Would like to keep the funds in some type of income/reasonably secure investment, but am having trouble accepting current GIC rates. I have been looking at ZAG, but admit that PAYM has also caught my eye. Could you compare these two and comment on your preference and why (other suggestions are welcome). Also, any comment on where interest rates might be heading over the next or so.

Thank-you

Q: I recently transferred my TFSA to a discount brokerage. CIF843 was part of this and then converted to CIF823 (non-trailing). I believe you are not in favour of mutual funds - nor I. Your opinion of this one? And a more attractive/similar ETF? Thanks, as always.

Q: I refer to an earlier question discussing MDA's $10 million equity investment in MAXQ in which 5i alluded that MAXQ was in the "lottery ticket" category. So, I have been a fan of MDA but am now considering an exit. In 5i's opinion, is MDA's $10M investment in MAXQ visionary, or a "hail mary"?

Q: Good Afternoon. I'm still searching for an international etf that suits my needs, that being a 65 y/o retiree who is more concerned with income, albeit with some growth. Most I have looked at have relatively low yields, around 2% or so. Is there such a thing as a high yield international etf? Are there any that use covered calls? Would also prefer hedged to CAD. Cheers.

Q: Good morning, would you consider GSY and PRL a buy at this time or within the next week or so?
Given their 12 month out pricing and good reporting results the selling seems way over done here.
Thx,
Kevin
