Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: When a RRSP becomes converted into a RRIF ,I tend to believe that owning a certain proportion of covered calls ETF ( let's say 30- 40% ?) could be interesting in order to get enough dividends each year , to avoid selling, and to preserve the capital for constant revenues when you are in excellent health..Thanks for any comments or suggestions ,the goal being long term optimized revenues .

Q: The other day you told someone not to continue a mistake if they realize they’ve made a mistake. The person went short and then the market had an up day. I think that was great advice. One of my biggest investing mistakes has been to double down on a losing hand. I think it’s a gamblers mentality. I just wanted to share this feedback. Thanks and please feel free to post my comment!

Q: Hello
Can PHYS, GLCC, GDXY and XGD be held in TFSA/RRSP accounts?
Is this collection a good mix?
Would AMAX be a better option than some of the aforementioned and if so, which would you replace with AMAX / drop completely.
Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

Do news stories like this affect the stock price of either the plaintiff or the defendant?

“Quebecor Inc.-subsidiary Videotron is suing Rogers Communications Inc. for $91 million over an alleged breach of contract related to the sale of Freedom Mobile two years ago.”

We have a small holding in QBR.B and although it’s slightly down in price compared to when we bought it, it certainly is holding up better than our large holding in BCE (down almost 50%, not including dividends), but BCE is an issue for another question!

Thanks for the great help you’ve supplied over the years.

Q: With energy stocks lower due to this trade war, would this be a good time to look at getting into this sector assuming it would be through an energy ETF? If so, do you have a few names that trade in Canada that provide a decent return, and some safety through a lower payout ratio? Thanks for your insight.
