Q: Good morning Peter, Ryan, and Team,

Could you give two or three Canadian stocks in each of the following sectors that look to be compelling buys today?

-Consumer Discretionary
-Financial
-Health Care
-Industrial
-Information Technology
-Utilities

I may already own some of your suggestions but would be comfortable adding to positions if my weighting is reasonable. (my call).

Q: Hi, CDN Dollar has gone up from $0.73 to 0.82 (+8%) within a span of less than 2 months. BOC did n't wait till October meeting and raised the Prime, indicating their bias towards more hikes in the future. In this environment, I am trying to figure out the currency impact on results of companies like CCL Industries, which have a fair share of earnings globally but report in Canadian dollar. CCL.b has already seen its share price tumble from $68 to present $57, within last 2 months.
(assumption being that CDN$ rise is the major reason)

Which are the other companies, in your coverage, deriving a decent share of their revenue in US Dollars and could see the impact of higher CDN $ ? Should this change in CDN/USD value raise a concern and revisit the holdings/weightings in your portfolios ?

Q: Why has Metro fallen off of a cliff? Would you be inclined to invest in it now or sell it and go into better opportunities in the sector like AMZN? I have a 2.5% position in it at around $29.

Q: i assume all three companies are going down because of the cdn dollar, is this correct. dave

Q: My concern is the US is going to move to close tax loopholes on companies doing most of their business in the States, but headquartered in other countries. What companies you cover might be negatively impacted in this case?

CXI and BYD are two that spring to mind.

Q: I own MG and MTY in consumer cyclicals and contemplating adding another name among GIL, RCH, ZZZ or CTC.A. Please order them from best to worst as a solid complement to the two I already have, as part of an RRSP account with a 15+ years time frame. Please give a brief rationale and suggest another company if there is an obvious better choice. I note that the stock value of RCH is surprisingly stable on multi-year charts for a c. cyclical.

Q: What do you think about the purchase of Norbord at these levels? Will the Harvey requirement for more wood products impact Norbord?

I am ready to take a position in CARA operations. I followed the company since it bought St-Hubert but I tought it was too expensive at that moment. Now, at the current price it seems a good entry point for a long term position. I would like your advice since I am not sure if I should take a full position (or a half position) considering the lack of momentum in the stock.

Q: I am doing a little cleanup of my losing positions. I have small "leftover" of BDI, HNL, AIM and PD which all seems to be dead money right now but I wonder if one of these companies could bounce back (BDI for exemple is trading at 0.3x book value) ?

Can you suggest a couple of good companies to replace these losers?

Q: Hi Team,
I own Shopify and Knight as my two main growth holdings. SHOP has blown the doors off and I am willing to be patient with GUD. As a possible re-balancing move, I am considering trimming SHOP and looking for a third growth company. I know you've suggested several alternatives in the Q&A before, but I am looking for a similarly high-quality selection. I already own OTEX and want to avoid the energy sector. Can you please name the top three Canadian growth stocks that you would suggest for further consideration as long-term holds that are not on the Venture exchange? Perhaps Kinaxis as one? Q: I am reviewing my holdings in Consumer non-cyclicals for my RRSP (balanced approach with 15+ years to convert to RRIF). I am underweight in this sector (4%) divided between CCL.B and FSV which you agreed in a previous Q&A that they can be considered c. non-cyclicals.

I’d like to increase to about 8-10% total by boosting one of the two holdings I already have (which one between CCL.B and FSV would be best at this time?) and/or acquiring one or two additional stocks. Here I think it would be wise to buy more typical c. non-cyclicals like ATD.B + PBH or perhaps simply just XST to get exposure to a basket of food-related stocks at once (primarly ATD.B, L, MRU, SAP). Your observations will be appreciated as always.

Q: Aa aging seniors, my husband and I are beginning to feel our "investing for the long term" is probably less appropriate than investing for the short term. Following your observation that CGX is less reliable than it once was, therefore, can you suggest a good replacement for it? It has done extremely well for us. And we are still well "up" on it. Thanks for your continued sage advice.
