Q: hello 5i team. Since your last comments on BABA, the stock has lost some of its momentum. I'm wondering how you view the stock currently. As a play on China (it would be my only holding), could this company be like an "Apple" proxy pointing the way to China's growing influence. I know you would probably prefer an ETF as a safer play, but I'm looking for a more growth potential approach. Any other suggestions are appreciated. Thankyou
Q: Could you please tell me what you think of HEDJ.US for exposure to European stocks? I am ok with the US dollar exposure but do not want the risk of the EURO declining versus the US dollar.
I know this is out of your core focus area, but I was hoping you could tell me if you think RDS.B's dividend looks safe going forward and if this might be a good entry point for this stock for a long-term position. Many thanks for any suggestions you have.
Q: Would you please advise me of what you would do - buy more, sell or hold given the recent news release regarding a lawsuit. I have held this stock for a while and, while volatile, the results have been great. Needless to say, I dont want to see the gains disappear. (What is that saying Peter, " ...rather leave the party a day early than an hour late?....)
Q: Good morning:
As a follow up to your answer to Vipin's question, what would you think of a direct investment in National Grid's ADR?
Thank you for your assistance.
Q: Good morning:
You recommended this morning DEM for an emerging markets dividend ETF. I have been holding EDIV for this purpose. I would appreciate your comparison.
Thank you.
Q: Can you please recommend a couple of good global dividend paying (no USD exposure) ETF's for an older person 5 years from retirement--we already have canadian and USD dividend ETF exposure and wish to balance equity exposure globally.
Q: Understanding that you focus on CDN stocks, I would value your opinion on Banco Santander SAN.US.
Do you see some upside at current valuations, the dividend sustainability, and ability to increase dividends.
Q: Hi Peter and Team
Could I get your opinion of a relatively new ETF RHP on European dividend payers. I believe it adjusts holdings quarterly and the mer. is 0.49%.
Thanks for all your help.
Gary
Q: could I get your opinion on emerging markets and the effect of the higher U.S. Dollar and debt. I own some emerging market etfs and was wondering if I should reduce my position which sits at %5 and if I reduce where should I place the funds.
Q: To Denis' message about the Verizon spin-off from Vodaphone, I am in the same situation. He would have received a T5 covering the dividend 'amount' as I did.
The same thing happened the year before with my Abbott shares when the company spun off Abbvie. In that case, Abbott actually offered shareholders the Election option to defer the dividend but I got a T5 anyway and the CRA taxed me accordingly. I'm still trying to contact them about that since I submitted all the relevant paperwork with my return.
Perhaps another member with accounting expertise would care to comment?
Q: I have owned these two equities for several years. Both are down 80+%. I know, I know, I should have bailed a long time ago. Your advise please, should I sell and move on or continue holding. Thanks so much.
Looking to buy PCCW Ltd (PCCWY) and would like your comments. Also, my brokerage resource shows a big difference in company size (10X) between ticker symbol PCCWY and PCWLF. Why would that be?
Q: If I understand correctly, the Chinese government lifted some restrictions, and due to it, a lot of money from China has been moving into the Hong Kong market. This might explain why the chinese market has gone up 40% in 1 year. TD Waterhouse tells me that the PE ratio on ZCH is 11.5. That's 60% cheaper than the TSX. (a) Do you think this move by the government will be transformational for that market is could bring their valuations close to the north-american markets? (b) with canadian dollars, would you buy XCH? CHI.A seems to be the only other option but it's 8x smaller in size.
Q: Hi There
I wonder if you can briefly explain the structure of this group of companies, which includes MGU-N, MQU.un-T and MQI.un-T, with a view to potentially choosing one for rising income. It seems shades of Brookfield (Brascan) - never really sure where the meat is.
Q: Hi team;
due to the QE in Europe and the low Euro vs the US currency, some analysts on BNN suggest putting money in Europe
The above XEU and XEH, one is hedged and one is not
I would need your expertise to decide which one is the preferred one
looking at the lower loonie, many thanks,
What do you think of Constellation Brands now that it has initiated a dividend? It has risen quite a bit over that past few months but the chart still looks pretty good. Is the valuation reasonable?
