Q: My TFSA is comprised of EIF (up), WELL ( down) and LMN ( up ) in equal amounts and is 4 % of my total ( cash and RRIF ) portfolios. I am not afraid of risk in my TFSA. I am looking at replacing EIF with HTA with the eventual goal of having HTA as my sole RRIF holding. I hold HTA
(5%) and EIF (2%) in my other portfolios. I like HTA for the combination of tech with high income. EIF has been good to me over the years but has been in decline for quite some time. Has something fundamental changed with this company ? HTA would be my only tech holding amongst my portfolios being almost 10% of value. Does this approach make sense?
Thanks. Derek

Q: portfolio strategy question

I have adopted a dividend investment strategy of investing predominantly in canadian dividend paying equities and as expected am overweight in financials, telecom and utilities, this strategy allows me to sleep well at night, I am looking at enough dividend income from the portfolio to retire on and not have to touch the principle investment.

besides the lack of diversification in geography and sector. can you give me your opinion about concerns you may have with such a strategy and what you would suggest doing otherwise ?

Q: Could I get your opinion on LIF? I know the dividend fluctuates, but does it seem reasonably sustainable at current levels, what is the payout percentage, the debt levels, and what will drive the stock price higher or lower and the likelihood of each. The stock seems to have traded back down a bit recently - would you consider buying at the current level for an income oriented investor?
Thank-you

Q: What is your opinion of Rogers Comm. today. How have they performed compared to the other Cdn. telcos. Is their future any different then BCE/Telus?
Would it effect their performance if they divested of their sports teams. Are the teams a distraction? or do they add to the bottom line. My opinion is they should concentrate on the telco business.
Thanks

Q: Hello Team, I read that summer gasoline demand is down for various reasons in the US (we may soon follow suit)and may remain that way. How do you think this will affect US refiners and Canadian (integrated) oil producers revenues and profits? Thank you.

Q: Hello. I'm a bit concerned about the payout ratios of BCE and Telus. Telus has an even higher payout ratio than BCE, and I'm wondering what their prospects look like for the next few years. Will they be able to keep up these high dividends? Is there a chance they might cut their dividends? My question is, should we reduce our exposure to these telecom stocks and reinvest in other areas? Your insight would be really helpful. Thank you!

Q: Hello,
Back in 2015 I started a long-term position in SU, thinking at the time that it was a better choice than CNQ as it was more of an integrated producer.
Didn't really work out that way, but I have done OK and collected a decent yield along the way.
Now that you have added CNQ to your Income portfolio, do you see any value in selling a third to a half of my SU position, buying some CNQ and then continuing to hold both for income long-term?

Q: Hi 5i,

Thanks as always for your incredible insight on all things investments. My questions revolve around Dividends.

I am new to the world of Dividends and to date I only own one Dividend paying stock (ATD); and would like to add several others as a means to diversify my investment portfolio. Hopefully I am not too late to the game. I am 50 and looking for long term investment.

I have taken a look at your Income Growth portfolio but if I am being honest, I don't know where to start. Knowing you cannot personalize recommendations - hoping you can at least offer solid guidance.

Can you please share you favorite 5-10 (CA or US) and rank starting with the best. Would appreciate dividend stocks which offer diversification across sectors if possible. Any best practices you could offer in this area (TFSA vs RRSP vs LIRA etc.); I would be most grateful for as well. Thank you in advance!

Q: to start a new position in telcom today.

assuming same dividend growth average of the last five years for each company and asssuming it is maintained moving forward,

how long would it take for the dividend of telus to catch up to BCE when they are starting as far apart as they are currently ?

Which of the two do you prefer for a long term hold and why ?

Q: Hello team,
Following OPEC'S meeting this week-end seems like there is much confusion and a panic reaction as to the extension of cuts into 2025 but also the fazing out of some cuts in October. I am looking at averaging down on Tamarack and looking more at there disciplined approach to paying down debt and repurchasing shares. Is this a good opportunity to purchase and looking at holding for the next year or so?
many thanks, regards,
Jean
