Q: Being retired I like the idea of funds that use covered calls to boost dividends. I have a limited amount of these funds because I do not want to miss the upside. However, if you assume that, in general, valuations are stretched right now, would the attractiveness of these funds not increase? In addition they are a natural source of diversification.
This question was prompted by a recent response to a question on DFN. My RBC website shows a monthly dividend yield of 10 cents or 11 % annually. Am I correct to assume that this is a calculation based on history and that if I bought this fund now, the actual distribution I will get will depend on a number of market factors and there is no way to actually predict it.

Q: Hi Team - XTC has been a frustrating stock. It's a half billion dollar company with a low valuation, but it's price has languished below 12 dollars. Do you have any insight into why it's such a thin trader, and why there's resistance to moving to a higher valuation? The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that it's pretty easy to manipulate a stock with such low volume.

Q: Would you consider this stock for a long hold at this price?

Q: I bought CRH at 4 dollars. It's now at app. 11 dollars. In the past with CCL and CSU, as the stocks ran up I trimmed and took profits. In hindsight, I would have done better if I had let them both run.

What I've learned from you is that picking a weight you're comfortable with is the best way to go. CRH now represents app. 7% of my portfolio. What is your recommendation as to the maximum weight for any one stock?

Q: I am helping to invest money for my thirty-year-old daughter into her TFSA and RRSP accounts. These investments should be considered as retirement assets so there is a very long time frame here. I am wondering between choosing RRX and VET for part of her energy portion (WCP will likely form the other half of her investment in this sector). Personally, I like the dividend and outlook that VET brings but being older, I am prone to viewing things from a more conservative perspective. However, would RRX have more potential to provide the longer term gains she is looking for?

Q: I like the cash flow from utilities and Transalta seems to be getting a handle on the new operating environment in Alberta. RNW is approx 60% owned by TA and that would mean the market is pricing TA only for it's share of RNW and assigning no value to the rest of TA business. Are my assumptions correct and if so do you have any idea why this would be so. Thanks

Q: I thought the results were outstanding. I am a bit surprised that you consider the shares just an "ok" investment. The future business looks great.The market will look more favourably on consumer staples in the coming months as the market looks frothy. Just my humble opinion.:)

I'm thinking of selling SJ and replacing it with ZCL. Other than the significant size difference, and assuming a balanced portfolio, is there a reason not to do this given the better momentum and dividend for ZCL?

Q: In our combined RRIF's, my wife and I have a 10.88% weighting in Financials (TD, BNS, PWF) of which PWF is 2.7%. I would like to buy more lifeco shares and wonder whether I should sell the PWF and put the proceeds into SLF, or just buy SLF to make up about 5% of total portfolios weighting.

Q: Hi: You previously made a comment on LFE in Nov 2016 about this Insurance company group. It has now paid a Dividend for 4 consecutive months. The effective yield is over 18%.
