Q: I asked a question before Christmas about trimming or dumping my above laggards which I haven’t seen an answer to.

Q: Happy New Year to you all. I have held a small position of "Eastern Platinum" for many year. Recently received a note that "The Toronto Stock Exchange reports that Eastern Platinum Ltd. will issue one right per share held on Dec. 18, 2020, with each right entitling the holder to buy one share for 32 cents per share. According to the TSX, the rights will begin trading at the open on Dec. 17, 2020, under the symbol ELR.RT and Cusip No. 276855 14 5. The shares will trade ex rights at the same time.

The TSX reports that trading in the rights will end at 12 p.m. Toronto time on Jan. 22, 2021. The rights will expire at 2 p.m. Vancouver time on Jan. 22, 2021, and will be delisted at the close on the same day. Trades in the rights on Jan. 20, 2021, will settle on Jan. 21, 2021, trades on Jan. 21, 2021, will settle on Jan. 22, 2021, and trades from the open to 12 p.m. Toronto time on Jan. 22, 2021, will settle on the same day.

What should I do about it? I only have 100 shares so if I sell "elr.rt" today, the profit won't even cover the commission (TD waterhouse $9.99). Is that the way the company to rise money? The share closed at 0.39 today. If I take the offer, will the share price go up (above 0.32/per share) after Jan 22, 2021? Thanks.

Q: Hi 5i,
In a US dollar account (non-reg) I have about 1.25% of my overall portfolio sitting in cash.
My approach with this account is to buy stocks that I don't have to sell for a long period of time and therefore have capital gains.

In my overall portfolio I already own Alphabet (4%),Apple (4%), Amazon (2.5%), Disney (2%), Facebook (1.5%), Microsoft (2.5%), Paypal (0.5%), Tesla (7% soon to be trimmed) Visa (4%).
Given what I already own (and that I would like a stock that is a long term 5-10 year hold) would you add to anything from the above list? Or would you invest in something else such as Costco or Pinterest?

A suggested order of preference would be greatly appreciated.

Q: Thinking of doing something new - Add US stocks to TFSA.
As of now, this account has a balance/growth Cdn stock tilt, like the ones in the 5iR portfolios. Read on 5iR, best to include no dividend or low dividend US stocks. Question - is there a rule of thumb or range for holding US stocks in TFSA or is it all just personal? 
Another question - for longer term holds in TFSA, what US stocks would you consider?

Q: Hi, I am looking at topping up my TFSA with a transfer in kind from a cash account. I realize that doing so with a profitable holding will trigger a capital gain, so am wondering about transferring stock that I currently show a loss on. Granted it is a paper loss and I do not wish to sell the stock outright as it is NVDA. Would the same be true here in that I will trigger a capital loss, because technically the holdings are sold in the cash account and bought again in the TFSA? If so, then it seems like an interesting option - would you agree? Or is there an alternative you would suggest that is better? As always, your thoughts and input are greatly appreciated.

Q: If I open an TFSA in my Wife's name and borrow from bank $75,000.00 (LOC)n my name to buy stocks ,, can the banks interest be deducted from my Annual salary or Cash account dividends as an expense.? I have my own TFSA. Is their such a thing as a "spousal" TFSA.

Q: I am a snowbird and require income in US funds. With the recent weakening in the US dollar is now a good time to convert some Canadian currency assets into US currency assets. What are your thoughts on the Canada USA exchange rate has it peaked or will the Canadian dollar stronger?

Q: The geography of the following according to my Alpha-Balanced portfolio are US.
BEPC-3.55%: CRWD-3.42%: VFV-3.59%:VEEV-1.99%: VGG 3.95% for a total of approximately 17%. I would like to increase this to approximately 25%.
In addition to the above I own the following dual listed stocks.
LSPD-10.28%: SHOP-5%: T-3.61%
Moving cash from unregistered C$ to unregistered U$ account. Would you consider adding to any of the above or do you have an alternate suggestion,
In the portfolio I’m overweight tech & industrials.

Underweight materials and energy. Not a fan of oil or gold .
