Q: What do you think about BDT's prospects in the upcoming Canadian economic landscape?

Their shareholder material suggests they're exposed to renewable and green energy infrastructure projects, extractive sectors like mining (critical minerals), as well as the constant talk about needing to build more homes all seem like tailwinds. I also like the emphasis on health and safety of their workforce which suggests a healthy and mature management team.

From a financial POV they seem to tick a lot of boxes too. Good historical ROE growth, heathy debt levels, a healthy/diversified backlog, growing forward EPS, and approaching $1B in market cap.

What do you think about BDT's prospects?
What's the bear case for BDT?

Q: Hello, Nice call on VRT !!! Despite the last quarter's miss, stock continued to be strongly supported by 5i and now it blew past Earnings and Guidance !! So, now, do you expect a similar performance from CLS, after close Today ? If yes, at what levels, it would make sense to add to these two companies ? We have a 1% and 1.75% position in VRT and CLS, respectively. Thank You

Q: We have a well-diversified Canadian portfolio (~30 holdings) focused slightly toward growth that is overweight in the Consumer Cyclical sector. Our current holdings, in approximately equal weights, are DOO, LNF, MG, BYD, PLC, ATZ. We are considering either reducing our holdings by one or a group trimming. Which would you prefer and why? For long term holds, how would you rate (1-10) these 6?

Q: I have a 1% weight of AT&T in my portfolio at a 50% loss, held in a non-registered account. I am thinking of selling to take advantage of the tax loss.

Do you see much chance for recovery in the next 6 to 12 months for AT&T, or would you recommend the strategy of selling and seeking a recovery from a higher quality stock?

Thanks.

Q: Good evening,

I currently own VMD, VHI, LLY, and WELL. I'm considering a consolidation down to three of the four stocks. For a five-year hold, how might you rank these in terms of overall growth potential and risk? Thanks, Brad

Q: I thought I read somewhere that you do not have to report capital gains that are less than some threshold amount, like say $50, but when I search I find nothing about this. Is it true? If true, would that threshold be per sale or in aggregate for the year? Because I have several transactions with DLR for currency exchange which result in very minor gains/losses. A bit tedious to report especially if just pennies are involved. Also, when reporting, I suppose one has to keep the 30-day investment loss rule in mind? Thanks.

Q: When thinking about buying, adding, holding or selling how much weight do analyst’s upgrades or downgrades factor into your decision-making? Are there any top tier analyst firms that you feel are worth paying attention to when they cover a stock you own?
Of course, the information provided by 5i is a given! Thanks for your input, Lesley
