Q: BEPC seems to have a dividend history of about 3 years so i find it hard to know circumstances under which they'd lower it but i assume it could include climate related factors. BAM on the other hand looks to have reduced (or adjusted due to a spinoff or restructuring, etc) their dividend in 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2020. Then in 2023, it increased by 128%. As the Brookfield name seems to have a lot of cash, it appears that it might be hard to predict when the BEPC dividend could be cut. Would you please guide on how to assess the sustainability of dividend payments for BEPC? Do you think there is much risk of the present dividend being cut? Thanks for your usual market wisdom.

Q: More questions on BEPC
When it launched, it grew rapidly from 07/2020 to 01/2021, then it began a steady decline which seems to have abated in 09/2023. Are there specific reasons that you know of for its 6 month climb and the following 31 month decline? And do you know of the reason(s) for its gradual climb from 09/2023 to today, which looks like the second longest climb since it was launched? I would think there’d be a story but maybe its only known to BAM. I read once in the G&M that one of the downsides of owning Brookfield companies was the complexity of ownership and the difficulty sometimes in understanding the attribution of consequences among the firms.
On 5 Dec/23 you were asked for your top 3 utility pics and replied with FTS, BEPC, H. Would the 3 be the same today and would the order be different?
Many thanks and please serve yourself and the credits -- i don't seem to use them up fast enough !

Q: Another question regarding Martin Pelletier's Financial Post article about using oil to hedge against possible serious geopolitical events:
Would HUC work in this scenario? Please suggest at least three other Canadian-listed oil ETFs that could also work.
Thanks.

Q: I am overweight in financials with BNS, TD, SLF, POW, Visa and underweight in Utilities. I was thinking of letting POW go. Thoughts on this?
For Utilities, I looked at TA with its very low P/E but it is still stuck in non-renewables at the moment. Thoughts on this? What utility (ies) would you suggest?
I am just asking for thoughts/suggestions.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Q: Would you be able to provide information on which companies are expected to benefit the most from exporting their natural gas through the west coast LNG? What is the expected timing for this benefit to show up in their financial results?
Thank you

Q: As per Martin Pelletier's article in the Financial section of this morning's National Post, I believe that oil (and/or oil & gas) will be a good hedge against general political and market turmoil this year. Would PDBC be a good alternative?
Q: Peter
You received a question about Tourmaline exporting gas to western Canada LNG facilities. They are a partner of Rockies LNG group which is trying to do just that: rockieslng.com

Q: Good morning. I've held NPI for a number of years and recent weakness has brought prices down to my cost base. A new analyst report from National Bank considers the stock to be undervalued and I'm considering increasing my holdings. I already own BEP.UN.? Your opinion on a price rebound for NPI.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Q: Hi 5i,
A question regarding TOU:
I've reviewed its website - very impressive and informative by the way! - and can't find any indication that TOU intends to send gas to the Canadian west coast for export as LNG. All gas it markets for LNG export seems to go through the US to the east coast or the Gulf.
I'm wondering if I understand this correctly and, if so, why wouldn't TOU take advantage of west coast LNG facilities in Canada and is it missing out by not doing so? (I know the TOU management is very smart so if they don't send gas to our west coast there's no doubt good reason - but I don't know what it might be ...).
Thanks for any insight you're able to provide.

Q: Can you explain the details of the TRP spinoff that is planned for the second half of 2024 please? I invested in TRP for the dividend income. What do you recommend I do after the spinoff is completed knowing dividend income is the highest priority when investing in this company?
Q: I am thinking about taking a full position in either Altagas or Keyera. Could you please provide your thoughts on both companies.
Thanks
David

Q: For a 3 to 5 year hold and safety of dividend, which is the safer stock CPX OR H.
Q: Stock seems particularly weak compared to other Cdn. midcap oils. Any comments. Thanks.

Peyto Exploration & Development Corp. (PEY $18.77)
-
Parex Resources Inc. (PXT $17.30)
Q: I hold both Peyto and Arc Res. I feel it would be prudent to only hold one of these. Peyto yields 10.2% vs. Arc at 3.3%, Pey more oil, Arc primarily gas, PE ratios are nearly identical at 6.8. LTD levels are similar considering the size of the companies.
I also hold PXT which I could sell and invest the money in these 2 names. Any thoughts? Thanks

Q: It has been a long while since I have owned Birchcliff Energy (BIR) and I was shocked to see it trading for less tham $6. The dividend yield is nearly 14 per cent. I understand that at 2.50 natural gas pricing that BIR has to use leverage to maintain the 20 cent per quarter dividend. I remember about a year ago BIR was debt free so I don't image their debt is that high. I also remember Jeff Tonkin saying that the dividend was almost sacrosanct. So I few questions. Is Tonkin still the COE or has he retired or stepped up to be on the BOD? Is the debt level of BIR still low? At 2.50 gas (I know BIR never used to hedge so I assume they are gettting spot pricing) how much debt per quarter must BIR use in order to maintain the current dividend and spend enough to keep production flat? Do you think they will resize, that is, cut the dividend? And if they cut do you thin they would do an NCIB and start to buy back the shares from their depressed levels?

Q: Hello 5i Team
Could you please review the three listed US Oil & Gas midstream companies which are not MLPs?
Please rank in order which would be the best company(s) for allocation of capital.
Are there any other US C-Corporation midstream companies which I should be reviewing?
These would be held in a US dollar denominated RRSP account for long term growth and income.
Thank you
