I own ITP in my basket of materials stocks. Trading at $1 below proposed sales price.
Assume the $9.99 * 2 is not an issue would you pull the trigger now and increase a modest position in TECK.B or wait for the sale to close?
Also assuming position in TECK.B is not overweight regardless of answer to first question would you continue to hold WFG in the basket or dump it in favour of increasing position in TECK.B?
Q: Hi, One of my friends who is constructing a house told me costs of 2x4’s have gone up by five fold recently.. Is that reflected in the stock prices of companies like West Fraser? Is it too late to get in?
Also what are your thoughts on Aritizia going into this tough environment of higher interest rates and inflation..Will apparel companies typically prosper in such an environment? Thanks.
Q: With lumber and panel board prices once again rising and producer valuations seemingly low could I please get 5i’s opinion on the sector and possibly a couple of recommendations to look at.
Thank you
Q: Hi - can you please provide your reasons as to whether you would be a buyers of these three stocks at current prices...or a hold...or sell. For a growth investor (otherwise please ignore other factors such as investor objectives/diversification etc.)
Q: With lumber prices way off their recent high, do you share many analysts opinions that this commodity will remain low for aa extended period of time. Do you share this opinion? Or do you feel West Fraser is a reasonable long term hold?

Q: My wife and I are in our mid-late 70's and only have investments in RRIFs.
We don't have any stocks in the materials sector and I would like to add something that has either solid growth potential or pays a dividend to add a bit more balance. I once invested in gold (BTO) and didn't do well, so I'm not particularly interested in that unless it meets the criteria above.
I am, however open to all suggestions. I have 6% space to allocate to your recommendations, so please advise accordingly.
Q: WTG has announced a "modified dutch auction" to buy back $1Billion worth of shares.
Is there anything to be learned from previous companies that did this? The trading activity is going to be skewed for the next few months. I believe the price will trade closer to $98 over the next few weeks.
I owned shares of HCG when they did a similar proposal and I recall regretting not selling to the market just before the offer closed because it traded above the cutoff price.
Q: Can you tell me your thoughts about the long term prospect for this company and why do you think it has been such a weak performer over the last month? Do you think it's growth has peaked? I've held this since 2014 and added a bit more in 2015 for an average entry price of around $32.00. Should I hold or sell?
If I was to replace this company in my RRSP could you give me three alternate companies in the material sector I should look into as possibilities for long time hold, hopefully with dividend and growth prospects?
Q: Hi gang
Which of the above is my best pick for a 2 to 3 year (more or less depending on what happens to this surge in lumber) buy? I would like to jump on this wave!
Thank you and stay safe...
Q: What is your view on commodity prices relative to the recovery from the pandemic and/or the global efforts to curb carbon omissions? Is the demand outpacing supply and if so what are the companies or ETF's to hold over the coming years? Is there any particular metals that one should focus on?
Q: Hi Peter
which three Forest Product Companies would you buy at this time and do you think they still have room to grow?
I am thinking of buying equal shares in each of the following companies:
- WFG
- IFP
-CFP
Do you think this is a good strategy?
Thanks Ron
Q: I own a fully position in IWN - with what's been going on lately with sector rotation (Growth verses value) should i see half the position and buy IWO (growth) or sell the entire position in IWN and buy IWM (both growth and value) ?
Second question I own significant holdings in WEF (overweight) WFG (1/2 position) and lastly Canfor (Full Position) My question is is it time to exit hold or reduce as lumber prices cannot stay at the present level forever?? (your comment please) maybe even sell some WEF some and go with a big house builder or even Lowes (I already own Home depot ) your guidance is appreciated
Q: WFG has just filed a shelf prospectus for 2Billion USD.As they are digesting the OSB merger what does this next move suggest to you?
Thanks
Bob Rose
Q: Hi group lumber companies took it on the chin in 2 short days WEF went down 15% in the last 2 days as an example . Is the run over /(Time to cash in profits) or is this simply some folks taking profits. I know housing starts in the us are off but is the high price on lumber not the culprit here and also looking like lumber inventories remain low which should = higher prices for lumber going fwd. - your thoughts are always appreciated
Q: Why did WFG dive by 6.46% yesterday? I know many forest product stocks were down quite a bit yesterday, but not that much, I don't think. Is this about former OSB holders dumping their newly acquired WFG shares, or is there something else also going on?
Q: Hi group sent question in last week about how to play commodities (recommendations) also do you agree the sector is in an upward trend and will it last. - still no answer
New question lumber stocks seem to be acting funny lumber prices are at record highs ($1,000 fbm) but lumber stocks are down 3 days in a row is it time to take profits on the sector or hold appreciate your views
