Q: I notice that members often have questions regarding how distributions from their ETF/mutual fund are categorized for tax purposes. I have found the following website extremely helpful:

Here, one can access the T3 for every ETF available, and can see even a month to month breakdown for those securities that distribute monthly. Very helpful for reconciling ACB and completing tax returns. Please post if you think this will be helpful to other members.

Q: What are the chances of Wsp increasing the dividend -it has been the same for at least the last 5 years. Given that the stock price is up nicely this month I wonder if it isn't time to move on to a higher dividend stock or a stock with dividend growth for my income account. What do you think and what would you suggest as a replacement -I own most of the stocks in your income portfolio.

Q: I own this ETF an I am wondering about its behaviour especially taxwise. I received a dividend of about $500.00 at the beginning of this year. Then the dividend was subtracted as a drip but I didn't receive any shares for the drip. I think I read that it was simply reinvested in the pool. I question this as the price went down, not up. Also, this company sent me a T3 tax receipt stating that I had received capital gains of $531.00. It seems to me this ETF is acing very much like a mutual fund. I'd like your opinion please.

Q: Hello Peter:
I see a constant flow of questions about "best growth stock", or "best for Balanced Portfolio", but can't remember one on Income Portfolio stocks. So here it is: could you give me your 3 (stretch it out to 5 if you wish), best stocks for income? The criteria might be:
- amount of dividend/distribution
- safety of the dividend/distribution
- growth potential of the dividend/distribution

I do apologize if this question has been asked and I somehow missed it.

Q: NVIDIA (nvda) has done very well from November to February but seems to have lost its momentum since. My question is which is the next NVIDIA and in which sector of the semiconductors do uou think it is best to focus ? For instance, any of the followings would you consider most promising or too risky and why ? Applied Material (amat), Broadcom (avgo), KLA-Tencor (klac), Lam Research (lrcx), Microchip Tech (mchp), Micron Tech (mu), OCLARO inc (oclr), ON Semiconductor (on), Skyworks Solutions (swks), Taiwan Semiconductor (tsm), Texas Instrument (txn). Or any other you have in mind outside that list ?

Q: Sold ALA at a lost and DHX with a gain to minimize my capital gain, with the intention to repurchase ALA 30 days later in my none registered account. Now, I am debating if I should purchase SPB or VSN instead. They all give a good dividend yield. Already have IPL in my TSFA and KEY in my wife TSFA. Your comments plse.

Q: Hi Peter I am confused of a writer yesterday saying he took funds from his RIF and moved them into his TSFA .The CRA rules that have been explained to me rightly or wrongly this is a no can do .Any withdrawals for a RIF or RRSP is a taxable event thus must be transferred in a cash taxable account first and then one can do what he wishes after the CRA rule is complied with.
Am I and the CRA wrong ?
